Autopsy Rd 14 Carlton vs Bulldogs Post Match Discussion

Too many inexperienced kids playing and the Bulldogs ultra defensive game plan caught us out.

Losing Everitt hurt our forward structure early and Cripps going down killed any chance of a comeback.

Hopefully Gibbs, Docherty, Rowe and Menzel are ready to comeback so we can have a decent crack at Richmond.

Thought once again Murphy battled on as hard as he could. He doesn't really do too much wrong lately. Had to do way to much heavy lifting tonight with such a young and light midfield around him. Didn't help having Cripps missing for patches with his soreness.

Especially in the midfield. Remember, we are missing Judd, Gibbs, Thomas & Carrazzo in the midfield...that is massive.
Add to that Menzel and Docherty and that is a lot of quality players out of the team.

Most of them replaced by youngsters and when you throw in so many at one time, things like structure and ball movement suffer.

Oh and add Everitt and Cripps getting injured in game...side understandably lacked a lot of quality.

I hate exaggeration like this.

11 disposals at 63.6%. Did a few nice things. In other words he did not stuff up every possession he had. You see what you want to see in order to release your frustration.

Tutt coming in hurt Boekhurst badly imo.

Bulldogs shut down space hard and Tutt's seemed to be the designated outside receiver.

A case of we're damned if we don't and we're damned if we do! Getting the older-younger player balance right is difficult but pragmatically the Blues need to get more game time into our future and we have to accept that this means errors and lost games.

Graham, Murphy, Cripps for 3 quarters with a troubled knee and Bell.

Gibbs coming back will help a bit.

Anyone still contemplating what the team will look like if we trade out every senior player with currency, tonight was your answer.

Too many players needing direction and not enough out there to give it. The younger guys need protection and direction while they are finding their way.

Or ones that only post on weekends when the games are on rather than take part in all the inside jokes and pointless 60's movies/music jabber that goes on.

No, she's talking about the ones that don't have anything positive to say when we win so they don't show up until we lose. If you post on weekends, win lose or draw, she isn't talking about you.

That is NOT an excuse.

It was a good opportunity for Boekhorst to show something and he didn't. Rarely heard his name and was caught a couple of times.
Certainly not playing to the expectations. Needs another preseason under his belt.

Tutt was just as bad, if not, worse. Both need to be dropped.

Curnow and Bell were alright, but it was frustrating seeing them constantly kick the ball up into the air and hoping for someone to clunk it. They have grunt, but simply lack skill. In fact, pretty much everybody lacked skill tonight.

More surprised by how average the Dogs are and they've got 8 wins.
Doggies average or just in a slump - their first half dozen games showed flair, pressure and real potential? Tonight we were good in first half without converting opportunities. The final score flattered us and certainly doesn't reflect well on the Doggies but they are a young side develop8ing well and will arguably be inconsistent. The Blues still have a LONG way to go.
