They have been close ones, the minnow countries have been the ones providing the contests.

No, it's not good at all. It's very bad actually.

The World Cup is a chance for all countries of the world to compete, not the top eight test nations plus two qualifiers. The World Cup should be about growing the game and giving a chance for the associate and even the affiliate nations a chance to compete on the world stage and not turning the World Cup into an elitist, glorified version of the Champions Trophy.

Providing an opportunity to the lesser ranked sides gives those countries a chance to show themselves on the world stage and gain more exposure to the elite level. If anything, the World Cup should be expanded to 16 or even 20 teams so that more of the lesser nations can showcase themselves on cricket's grandest of stages. You only have to look at the Soccer World Cup (32 teams) and Rugby World Cup (20 teams) to see the opportunities they provide to the lower ranked sides and how it grows the game in those countries. Yes, there will be one-sided matches but they are least givena chance to play against the best in the world.

Given the way the tournament has gone at the moment, it's the Associate nations who are providing the better contests. Afghanistan, Ireland and to a lesser extent Scotland have been competitive while established sides such as England and Pakistan have been very average. Just because a team is s**t doesn't mean they don't deserve an opportunity.
