Toast RIP Tommy Hafey

Condolences to the Hafey family, such sad news. I was lucky enough to meet him and could not have met a nicer and genuine bloke. The one thing I remember him telling me was "don't ever take for granted that you support the Richmond Football Club"
The AFL has lost a TRUE LEGEND!!

RIP MATE!

Hit me like a tonne of bricks reading that just now.... I probably do and I shouldn't.

I shed a tear in the car on the way home when I heard the news on the radio.

I was behind him in the ticket queue at a Melbourne Storm rugby game 18 months ago with my 11 year old son (at the time). He was happy to pose for pictures with people in the queue. I was able to introduce a real life living piece of Tiger history to my boy that night. What a real classy down to earth humble gentleman he was.

I was touched when I got home tonight and my son remembered the night we met him and told me that he had seen it on the news that he had passed away.

Vale "T-Shirt" Tommy.

The Richmond football club mourns tonight as does the Collingwood football club & all football supporters in general.

A true Legend & gentleman of the game.

Vale Tommy - now with Captain Blood and my Mum in RFC heaven. I see my Tommy Hafey autograph on the fridge every day. 'Keep fit' he wrote. Met Tom at a sportsman's night several years ago. One of the highlights of my life. I'll never forget when a couple of blokes who had had a few too many called out things, Tommy just refused to speak until they were quiet. You could see the coach in him - demanding and commanding respect. Surely a statue at Punt Road beckons.
Condolences to the Hafey family and friends.
