Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

The Bats moniker works when you consider John Batman was the founder of Melbourne (according to a number of historians).

If that's what they've been waiting for to be approved by the FFA, then it will have been worth the wait as that looks smashing. :thumbsu:

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

When you think of the team's name, it's not as if you will say 'Sporting Melbourne Bats' ala Melbourne Victory, Brisbane Roar, Perth Glory etc as it appears to be a separate entity. Think of it more like Burnley and the Clarets, or Liverpool and the Reds.

That's the impression I'm getting anyway.

got this emailed to me by someone at the club.

looks unbelievable:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Thats actually quite good.

Bats is pretty original, I can't think of another club with that nickname.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

OMG, Hamilton Accies have joined the A-League!

Seriously though, they've picked the right name, the colours are OK as no-one else is Red & White, while I dislike hoops it's again distinctive, and the nickname is a cracker, very original and links back to Batman.

Good job Sporting Melbourne.

That said, you are Victorian and I still don't like you!:p

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

It appears that Melbourne Heart, Melbourne Revolution and Melburnians have also been registered by the FFA.

:(

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

Damn. Although I still reckon it will be Sporting Melbourne going on that picture posted.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

At first thought the 'Bats' nickname really seemed off, but with the knowledge that it was a city founded by our own Batman makes more sense. Who knows, maybe it will be a nickname that Melburnians identify with. I give it my approval.

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

Looks fantastic.

C'mon you Bats! :p

I agree!

If this is what it is I am over the moon.

A traditional football logo. I love it.

Also the name "The Bats" will be like the moniker "The Red Devils" for Man United or "The Magpies" for Newcastle United. Also the historical basis for the name is very clever.

Sporting Melbourne FC. I got my vote and couldn't be happier if true. :D

Re: who intends on being a melbourne heart fan?

Must say, if they end up being named 'Melbourne Heart', it will be a massive disappointment.

Unfortunately, I've got the feeling that numchuks' post is too good to be true.

See what happens, I suppose.

Eh? Am I reading this post right or is it the alcohol?

After all this excitement of the possible 'Sporting Melbourne' name, the 'Bat' moniker, and the strip, that if they were to just end up being called 'Melbourne Heart', then it would be very disappointing.

So I'm not getting my hopes up atm.

Hopefully that's made it easier for your alcohol induced state of mind. ;)

So that's why you have a street called Batman St in the city.

I thought/hoped it had been named after, you know ... Batman. :p
