The BBC is saying that the yellow card during the game didn't carry over into the penalty shootout.
Edit : found it in the laws.
A player who has been sent off during the match is not permitted to take part; warnings and cautions issued to players and team officials during the match are not carried forward into penalties (penalty shoot-out).

Maybe it's an advantage to have a prick in goals for a shoot out. Like that Aussie Wiggles dancer.
Here's another weird rule about penalty shoot outs. If Martinez had been sent off a Villa outfield player would go in goals and Lille would have to nominate a player to drop out so as to even up the numbers.
Martinez is a loved boy at Villa.
