Port Adelaide 11.3(69) def by Geelong Cats 14.8(92)

June 12, Adelaide Oval

Port Adelaide

I’m devastated. 2 1/2 hour drive home, get home at 1am and i’m just utterly devastated at that result. I’ve sat through us playing much worse games than that but for sheer frustration, that has to be right up there with the most frustrating and annoying games I’ve ever watched. We had every chance to win that game and we blew it. No other way to describe it, we blew it. Had plenty of the ball, plenty of forward movement, plenty of forward entries. All for nothing.

Now is the moment I know we won’t have any part to play this season.

There are so many things wrong I could be here all night writing all this out. Our game plan is absolute pants. We may as well make the 4 boundary umpires honorary Port players and give them a ******* guernsey to wear we kick it to them that often. All I could do was sit there and laugh at the amount of times we kicked the ball out of bounds. I’ve watched I dunno, maybe a few thousand games of footy in my life and I cant recall any team kicking the ball out of bounds that much in a game before. Another record we can hold. – Macca19

Geelong Cats

Quite clearly our best win of the year – MoggsCreek

Can we get a pint of blood for the skipper, stat?!  – catempire

Guthrie, big.

Murdoch, super game.

Caddy, brilliant contested game.

Stanley, before going off, terrific.

Blicavs, wow.

The back half were great but Lonergan and Rivers were epic.

Corey Enright. You superstar!!

Well done Catters. Very happy tonight. – Pivo

Lucky I don’t have a heart condition. – Shai

Positives FAR outweigh any minor negatives. – gcsunsfc

Take that effort into Carlton after the bye. – kreglze

– Don’t think Matera is up to it
– Didn’t miss Stanley and think he is replaceable (sorry Bull accounts/Stanley family members, no offence intended)
– Offer Lynch whatever the hell he asks for, he’s the best CHF in the game
– Saad continues to grow. Twice knocked about, and still in the best handful. Absolutely incredible find.
– Rocket’s structures and game plan are finally bearing fruit. Can’t wait until next season. – Darkwingduck

Fremantle

I rather just list positives for now:

Fyfe asserting his “best player in the league” title once again. If he wasn’t at his best, we would’ve lost.
Sutcliffe actually played pretty well today. Had to, otherwise he would’ve been dropped. Started off bad, but 2nd quarter onwards he was solid.
The whole backline minus maybe Sheridan were all solid.
Sandilands broke his own record. 71 hitouts. Too bad not many of them were too advantage.
Hannath was a good backup ruckman today. I think he should keep his place over Clarke for now. – Yellow Mit

Awful performance, no doubt. Came far too close to what would have been one of our most embarrassing losses as a football club.

With that said, we are 10-1 going into our bye sitting top of the ladder at least one game clear of second, maybe two if North get up.

We have looked a shadow of ourselves from the start of the year over the past three weeks, but there’s a bit of time off to review and refresh. Got a couple of home games in a row after the bye so the players won’t have to travel for a month pretty much, and in theory we should be pretty primed for a good run home.

Again, absolutely shit performance, but let’s keep it in perspective and see how we come out after the bye. – Dignan

West Coast Eagles 14.12(96) def Essendon 6.10(46)

June 13, Domain Stadium

West Coast

Positives:
Win is a win, margin was a bit flattering but 4 points is 4 points.
Capitalised well on the ruck (non) selection
Sinclair looks like he’s worked it out, very good first half
Schofield reads it so well and had a nice game after a few tough outings
Gaffy’s has a great few weeks
Priddis was solid and helped the midfield go during some tough stretches
JD had a good return
HILLY!

Negatives
Big one is our continued inability to stop transition from out of our 50. Burned us early against Geelong and looked to hurt us today
Midfield of Selwood and Priddis just looks stagnant, get Yeo into the guts. Like Selwood but for structures sake he’s got to go for a week or two
Injury threats, hope Gov is ok
Skills were poor, again a drop off since the early rounds
JK being unselfish better not cost him a medal, blaze away son, have a ping!

My eyes have been opened today.

Our forward line is not our biggest problem.

How a team can have 290+ uncontested disposals (412 total) and only generate 35 inside 50’s is an indictment on the coaching staff and the midfield.  – The Prosecutor

North Melbourne 10.15(75) def by Sydney Swans 14.7(91)

June 13, Etihad

North Melbourne

Lost the game with bad kicking. Harvey and Ziebell what, 3 behinds each? That Waite and Higgins miss near the end, horrible. Honestly not even that impressed with Sydney considering how bad we played. Can’t wait until Wells and Dal Santo are back. – Kcrack

Not as disappointing as a 60 point loss. Nice of them to show some fight and have a chance to win it.

With us getting some cavalry back in the next few weeks, we should be able to mount a good case for finals. Looked pretty good.

Some of the changes after half time really worked. – Skarrz

Sydney

1. Hanners is the toughest bloke going around.
2. I hope defenders are on our end of year shopping list
3. It’s good that we get a bye – Troystenvic

1. Laidler’s best game in the red and white, clearly a best 21 player for us now.
2. When Jetta is on, like he was tonight, he oozes class with his vision and kicking. Very enjoyable to watch.
3. Rohan’s chasing in the forward line is unparalleled in the AFL. No wonder he always get subbed off with cramp, he puts in 100% in every chase.
4. When Pyke has a stinker like tonight, it’s going to be a real issue against genuine finals teams. I’m not sure we have a solution or Plan B in contingency either.
5. The game plan of bombing it long to Tippett against 3 defenders is probably not going to result in many goals. – grimlock

Collingwood 18.11(119) def GWS Giants 11.11(77)

June 14, MCG

Collingwood

Like I said last week, I’ve all but conceded that it’ll take for it to be mathematically impossible to miss the finals before people accept that we can make it.

We can only beat who we’ve played, and only a handful of weeks ago people had GWS at genuine top 4 contenders. Well, don’t forget about little old Collingwood, we’ve got ourselves in prime position to seriously contend for a spot. Love sticking it up the haters who every week expect us to finally fall. Go Pies! – jjsmitty8

Leaves us with unanswered questions.
They lost to many key players at crucial times to give us an accurate gauge on where we sit.
Bigger fish to fry over the next month or so. – Black_White

I’m not just gutted for this game and what could have been but I can really see the boys falling off the pace now if the injuries from today are long term. 4 of our 10 most important players going down. – Simmofree

What a terrible day but at the same time a good reality check and a great experience for the lads.

Shaw and Shiel were both outstanding today. Whatever Heater is on he is worth every cent, both he and Haynes did a great job down back and will be central figures in our flag teams in a couple of years.

Shiel and Ward were our best mids and did their best in a well beaten team. Treloar was very slow to get going and is playing like a tortured soul with the weight of the world on his shoulders (body language gives it away).

Out of the ashes some positive points. McCarthy, Kelly and Haynes are truly big stage players and will be stars in our grand final teams as they eat pressure. Whitfield works his arse off but is still prone to a couple of brain fades a game. He just needs to get that out of his game and he is a gun.

WHE is playing without confidence and just needs some more time. I dont believe he is an elite kick but he is not as bad as he was today. Maybe play him on the wing and bring back Palmer as small forward?

Hard to be critical when you lose your two KPD’s and ruckman but realistically they were still a 3 goal better team even before that. They should bask in it as we will keep improving two to their one and will start getting them soon. We need another big bodied defender and tap ruckman, if we don’t address this in the off-season we are idiots.

Keep your heads up peeps. All part of supporting a young team!  – Andre the Giant

St Kilda 12.13(85) def Melbourne 12.11(83)

June 14, Etihad

St Kilda

Beaten in the contest again today and with Melbourne playing keepings off we were a bit gassed in the third quarter which meant they were able to work through our defence.

I thought Minch drifted out of it. Dunstan also very quiet.,

Anyone who thinks Ross isn’t in Saints best 22, has rocks in their head.

Dempster was great. Took some really good intercept marks all night.,

Gilbert good for the run.

Riewoldt is an amazing human. He was sensational.

Newnes also very good.  – Rough_Edges

It may have only been a win over lowly Melbourne but damn what a win for this young side.
The comeback win over the Dogs and now this win from a game almost lost. Great sides can pull off
these sort of things. We are not a great side yet but club is learning and earning some respect. – Superduperouzel

99 tackles in a game of footy is ridiculously good! Credit to Richo for allowing us to play a fast-paced, high pressure, high intensity game. That’s the game we want to be playing when we’re up in a few years time so getting the groundwork in now and it’s working beautifully.

Bad news is that it leads to fatigue, and that definitely showed. We played well in patches and then the Dees were able to wrestle momentum back. We’ll get a few more games under the belt of our young guns, and we’re set to have a really good shot at a flag in the near future.

Was anyone else heartened by Bomber’s praise of our young team? Said it reminded him of a young Geelong team and really commended the way Richo has our blokes working together and pressuring. I really rate Bomber’s footy knowledge so it’s good to hear from an expert that we’re on the right track.

Unbelievable win. Guess we’re not getting that first pick.  – SaintLex

Melbourne

The other night I had a dream that I’d been invited to a confidential AFL briefing which revealed the league had decided to merge Hawthorn with GWS and call them Hawks Greater Western (?). I left this meeting intending to leak the story to the press only to discover that of all people Neville Jetta had already done it. No idea how, he wasn’t even in the meeting. How I wish that was the weirdest football related incident of my weekend. – DemonBlog

Ive seen enough for the season. Footy is simply not enjoyable when watching Melbourne play.

We are a team that simply does not learn from mistakes, nor try to improve on them.

It is literally the SAME thing every game.

We are about the worst team in the comp, yet again. St Kilda runs us around in circles.

I hope there is a clean out of massive proportions come seasons end. – Darksidepoints

Sure we can all say we where close. But 41 seconds is not good enough for me! In the entire game St Kilda must have gotten the instant reply about 5 times, the last one the most costly. You score the only goal of the quarter then flush it down the drain instantly. – Darthsidusfan

Very similar to the Dogs games at Etihad last year. I’m sure there were fans then saying the exact same thing as fans are saying now. We got our revenge on them and we will get our revenge on St.Kilda. This was one was more heartbreaking though. And the Etihad hoodoo remains.

Toumpas, Jimmy ******* Toumpas. We’ve waited a while, but he produced a breakout performance. That’s why we drafted him. Very creative.

Hogan: Very frustrating game because he played on when he shouldn’t have, dropped a crucial mark and couldn’t make the distance when we needed him to. But he still kicked 5 goals like it was nothing. Superstar.

Vince: 38 touches, Armitage 20.

Viney: Complete muppet for jumper punching so late in the game, but played a solid game and laid one of the best tackles I’ve ever seen in the 2nd quarter. – Sylvia Saint
