Media Thread 2026: Insightful, Inciteful and Incomptent

Any ruckman who repeatedly gets towelled up by Mason Cox should be instantly disqualified. Also, I was there for Gawn's prelim in 2021 and it was awesome. But I was also there in 2018 when he was nutted by Vardy and Lycett. Gawn's '21 prelim performance is often held up as his iconic moment...

Media Thread 2026: Insightful, Inciteful and Incomptent

I get it's Garry Lyon (Melbourne) vs Tim Watson (Essendon), but I'm seeing it everywhere. Jake Niall (who's a journo I respect) said it pretty flippantly this week, along the lines of "Gawn, who's clearly now ahead of Cox". And we don't have the support in the media for the debate. Would've...

Media Thread 2026: Insightful, Inciteful and Incomptent

This has really irritated me all week. So apparently it's confirmed that Gawn has gone past Cox. Nevermind the guy can't kick, and can't run with the footy. I've maintained for the last four years that Cox could do what Gawn does. But Gawn cannot do what Cox did. 1. Gawn can't take two bounces...

Media Thread, 2025: Insightful, Inciteful and Incomptent

I don't think he could have gone with the season over story on Monday because the information he had received was wrong in the first place. I reckon it's as simple as he received information on Monday, and didn't do the due diligence and research to check it. He went off half-cocked, and only...

Media Thread, 2025: Insightful, Inciteful and Incomptent

Without labouring the point, but is Mitch Woodcock the worst 'journalist' we've seen? On Monday he wrote that "There is hope West Coast spearhead Jake Waterman has avoided a serious shoulder injury" under the headline "West Coast Eagles forward set to avoid worst-case scenario for shoulder...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition

Only if they lose Rowell as well. He does have 2 years to go on his deal I think, but it's definitely a worthy discussion. IF we offloaded the Hawthorn first-rounder for Flanders, while preserving the (likely) two top 5 picks that would be a good result. Just look at our midfield and the lack...

    List Mgmt. Contracts/Trade/Draft Thread - 2025 Edition

I've been thinking about this for awhile. Our midfield is not getting any better, and while it should be the #1 position of need in the draft, I think we need to be more strategic about how we target ready-made ball-winning mids. I would look long and hard at the Suns, who are stacked in that...

Bizarre that has just been published as a column today, when it's a verbatim transcript of Duff's editorial from Monday morning

JL's been on the board almost 6 years. If he hasn't been able to exhibit any real influence by now, then he never will.

News Media Thread, 2023: Insightful, Inciteful and Incomptent

I'm not usually one to jump on Barrett and Lloyd's coat tails but they're spot on here. Gavin Bell seems like a great guy but the decisions since Vozzo left the footy department need to be examined. At the end of 2021 Vozzo joins the club executive as senior corporate counsel, and instead of...

News Media Thread, 2023: Insightful, Inciteful and Incomptent

While the West has always been a rag, the descent to the bottom has been sped up since Jakeb Waddell came on board as sports editor. He's a bloke in his mid-20s who lacks the experience and nous for the role, and he is completely out of his depth. He basically went from editing the South West...

List Mgmt. Christmas comes early (Nov 28 - 19 sleeps) - Draftee discussion

I don't want Allan at 12/13 - I just think that's where it'll land. This is just me, but I prioritise clean ball handling over almost every other facet (other than clean disposal) and from what I've seen Hewett isn't the cleanest. Not to say he doesn't have elite attributes but I'd rather pass...

List Mgmt. Christmas comes early (Nov 28 - 19 sleeps) - Draftee discussion

That's why I floated George - I doubt we draft George if Phillipou is our first pick (positionally similar) however if we get McKenzie, I can see George being the guy at 21. IMO McKenzie and Phillipou suit our needs in different ways, so either of those guys would be a win at #9
