Best Teams of the AFL Era (1990-2018)

Honestly I prefer to consider the current competition as 2000 onwards. It's an arbitrary year I know, but it does take into account a few important aspects: 1. I think the quarters were changed to 20min each around this time? 2. All legitimate AFL states had their teams established beyond the...

Best Teams of the AFL Era (1990-2018)

I was thinking about this yesterday. I think there is two different categories. Best teams and Strongest teams. The best teams are those that have the most success by winning the games that matter most frequently. The strongest are those that are the most unbeatable at any given time...

The absolute state of Channel 7 commentary

That "Roaming Brian" segment is unwatchable and never-ending. How long has that been going on? I'd rather watch those all-night infomercial channels.

Biggest non-Grand Final Games of All-Time

Geelong v Hawthorn R17 2008 buildup was huge, only surpassed by R15 2009. Collingwood v Gelelong R19 2010 was huge too. The day Collingwood announced themselves as genuine.

Greatest Finals Wins of All Time

Can't believe nobody mentioned the following: Collingwood v Geelong PF 2010: The first half was absolute perfection. Adelaide v North GF 1998: North led by 2.12 at halftime - should've led by 12.2. Adelaide had no chance going into the match against Footscray the week before and won by 70...

Autopsy 2016 AFL Grand Final - Western Bulldogs 13.11.89 d Sydney Swans 10.7.67

If you're referring to 1929, you need to educate yourself. That was the finals system back then. All teams knew the way it worked beforehand. You, and many others that try and use this argument, try to make out that they made an off the cuff decision to allow Collingwood a second chance after...

Autopsy 2016 AFL Grand Final - Western Bulldogs 13.11.89 d Sydney Swans 10.7.67

Huge kudos to you. Takes a big man to make such a measured and respectful comment at a time like this.

Autopsy 2016 AFL Grand Final - Western Bulldogs 13.11.89 d Sydney Swans 10.7.67

Also the first time in the 120 years of the competition that a team has won 4 consecutive cut-throat finals!

It's time we talk about the dogs getting favoured by the umpires

Sadly, I have to agree with you. I don't like Sydney and am rapt the Bulldogs won, but I noticed quite a few questionable decisions/non-decisions and all but one favoured Footscray.

The 2016 AFL Grand Final - Sydney v Western Bulldogs, 2.30pm, MCG

Libba's hands are phenomenal. Dogs tackling sensational, but Kennedy having a blinder. Swans seem to be on the wrong end of the umpiring too. Anybody's game at this point.

The effect of losing a grand final, could it help the next time around?

Not always though. It can also make the next GF loss that much more unbearable.

The effect of losing a grand final, could it help the next time around?

This is a strange one for me to explain. There's some GF losses that are easier to take than others and some PF as well. Most people think 2002 would be harder to swallow than 2003, because we were so close, not to mention hard done by on the day, but for me 2003 was a thousand times more...

    Sympathy for the runner-up

I was just watching the doco on the 2010 draw and I've got to say that I still feel a lot of sympathy for the Saints and in particular, their fans. Of Course I didn't want Collingwood to lose, but it was just so unfair that firstly, St Kilda didn't claim a flag in that 09-10 period, and...

Am I the only one who thinks the Dogs will get flogged?

I'm actually surprised that so many don't give the Dogs a chance. Sure it's 1 v 7, but the three wins during the finals trumps all that. The biggest hurdle for the Dogs is the emotion associated with being in such a rare situation and the immense pressure to capitilise on this unique...

    Most hated club in Melbourne?

I personally disagree, but believe everything you say to be accurate in regards to most supporters. Out of the interstate sides, Adelaide is surely on top of most peoples lists? Again, doesn't relate to me personally, the Crows are my second side. For me, interstate sides are given no lower...
