You could look at this as arse protection so if they do decide to do the trade the blame from irate supporters will rest with the board, not the football department. Could be a smart move, given the likely heat. But board far more likely to take a non football-based decision. -

Best not to underestimate the mental health challenges faced by many in the general population, let alone the high pressure AFL environment. I reckon it’s better to err on the side of compassion even if a few seem to be taking the piss - we never really know what’s going on. -
