Did you watch the game? Nick massacred them in the first quarter with about 6 really dangerous centre square clearances in a quarter - we should have been lots of goals up at quarter time but missed some gimmes and gave away a couple of dumb ones. In the second quarter, Bont reverted to not...
It’s quite staggering that that game is trying to be used against Nick. It was the young maestro v the old. The young was superlative and the old even better. Two stunning displays. It’s about where this thread has gone with the juvenile attempts to limit praise.
Base summary is Nick has has if...
and why shouldn't these things be factored into a discussion about "GOAT"? If you ask me, a big, strong beast of a footballer who can take contested marks up forward has a greater claim to be the "GOAT" than a player who doesn't.
Perhaps Collingwood fans should take this exact advice before...
No squirt, he's more impressive because he can take contested grabs, Daicos cannot, period.
For his whole career Bontempelli has been more or less doing the same things Daicos has been doing, and more on top of that. Has a better defensive game, is more aerobic and can take a big mark.
And yet...
Bont is 6'4 and 90+ kilos. Nick is like 5'10 and not even 80 kilos. No amount of talent can make up for that size advantage under certain circumstances. Bont is nearly 30. Nick is only in his 3rd year.
Perspective.
Bont is more impressive because he took a contested grab before he kicked his goal? Sure, I guess Nick has never cut open defences with beautiful goals on the run in the last quarter. Never done that ever.
Also extremely odd to isolate that game as why he is not “that guy”. A game where he won...
Who would you say are the best mids? None of this lot?
Cripps?
Serong?
NickDaicos?
Bont?
Tom Green.
Rowell
Neale.
That must be a list of spuds, since they are all too stupid to anticipate the ball and win it easily without contesting it.
( They are the top 7 contested ball winners in 2024 ).
He might be foxing like Fages might have been regarding Joe. Maybe he's planning on having someone down Lachie's shorts all day long.
He did concede after the Collingwood game that "you really do have to tag NickDaicos".
NickDaicos was a gift, I don't know why you're trying to argue that.
Just because we invited him to our "f/s academy" doesn't mean he wasn't a gift. Just because we had to use a draft pick on him, doesn't mean he wasn't a gift.
We didn't get him due to good management or good recruiting, he...
...the norm but you will hear what I think.
1. Murphy Reid- classy operator who is smooth and uses the ball well. Has a little bit of NickDaicos in him I think.
2. Finn O’Sullivan- super talent who has had injuries and to be frank has lost some form. At his best has real talent, is a hard...
Well, that's actually not true at all. If he was just a normal draftee, we wouldn't have traded away our future first a year before, and therefore we'd have picked him with our pick 2...
I remember it being mentioned on either 360 or First Crack that Montagna had a bit of a hand in Freo taking Serong.
Turned out to be a pretty good scouting recommendation in hindsight.
Very well done! Interesting because Zac Butters was what i was seeing.
And id agree we probably want a mid that can be a utility or/ or wing. But if Smith was deemed best available id be happy for him on our list. Imagine that in traffic work feeding out to LDU, Powell, Sheezel and McKercher...
...who specialize mostly in ground balls rather than pure contested posessions.
His best comparison in game style might actually be NickDaicos, but he lacks Nicks pace, his gut running and his damage by foot.
It's also hard to identify in the data, as a bit of a black spot in modern footy...
I remain more optimistic. Losing Murphy from this cohort doesn’t help though. Neither does losing Ginnivan and Henry.
I’d add Steene, Smit, Eyre and Macrae to the hopeful list.
THere's only 1 Wizard and that's Jeff Farmer. What have you seen from nick Watson? Horrendous accuracy in front of goal. Hell he even missed a shot from the goal square when Sicily yelled at him.
...is clearly yes, he could become the GOAT.
Can we close this dumpster fire of a thread now, or do mods just leave it open fearing another Collingwood nuffie will make another nuffie thread (Aug 2026 - NickDaicos has won four Fadgelows in a row… GOAT confirmed!) about it in another season or...
This has to be a fair dinkum troll. You know Collingwood were missing NickDaicos when they beat us 😂
But sure Harrison one good game in his career as a forward Petty was the firestarter
