I'd say stranger things have happened but it's unlikely.
From a coaching and playing perspective we should always be trying to compete while balancing the now and the future.
From a recruiting perspective we should probably be looking mainly at 2027 onwards when our young players should be...
I reckon the opposite will happen. Every club that could afford the salary wanted to do the Bowes deal but Bowes ultimately chose one club so Gold Coast had to do a deal with only Geelong.
If Gold Coast could've auctioned off salary cap space to anyone I reckon they would've only needed to...
It's so annoying that our VFL game starts at 1.05pm just 40 minutes before the afl. Why would both clubs want their VFL teams overlapping with the AFL?
Surely they could've started it at 11 or better yet played it on Sunday so the emergencies could get back from Hobart to play.
Hopefully. But it's also important to remember Guthrie was at a pretty similar spot 2 years in.
He played 2 games in his first year. Then he played most of the H&A season in 2012 (18 games) but was left out for finals so looking similar to Clark. Guthrie really broke out in the 2013 finals...
They need a better cheat ground. They're 1-10 from their last 11 and the only win was against a team that is now on a 16 game losing streak away from home.
Again I'd love to know how you're getting to 4+ A-graders at Essendon, Stkilda, Adelaide, Richmond, North, Hawthorn and West Coast using those criteria to leave us with the least elite players of any AFL club.
So if he's a gun who would obviously play for us I assume he's tearing up the VFL then?
Well no he's got 16 votes in 9 games (1.78 per game). Our own Ted Clohesy who's also struggling to get a game and is 2 and a half years younger averages over 3.2 votes a game.
What makes Davies better than...
If Holmes and Danger don't count I'd love to know how you're getting to 4+ A-graders at Essendon, Stkilda, Adelaide, Richmond, North, West Coast, Hawthorn and West Coast.
On the track he's clearly great. But between the drug stuff, mental health stuff and it being unclear why he's wanting out of the dogs I think there's reason to be a touch nervous. I'm still pulling the trigger on our first rounder though.
There's gotta be some question over attitude too. But yes if he can become the player he was threatening to be our first rounder will be a massive bargain and it's clearly a risk worth taking.
My only worry was what we're offering him as a salary to get him across and if that makes it harder...
Close but he didn't turn 22 until Dec 2003. He would've already been traded before his 22nd birthday.
Good call. Probably the best nomination so far. Again though did he have a really big impact? Good role player but was clearly behind Cotchin, Martin, Prestia, Edwards and Lambert as a...
Menegola and Bowes were the two that I thought of that fit the criteria and were decent players. But Menegola did his best work clearly on the wing rather than in the guts.
We're stacked with solid winger, flanker types who can go through midfield and would be ok as 4th-5th banana. We need to...
It's a decent shout. He was one that came to mind so I checked.
Kennedy turned 21 in June of the year he was traded. Davies turned 22 in March this year so is 15 months older. Kennedy also played all of the last 9 games that year so was being selected more than Davies is.
I'll pose the question again on Davies:
When has a 22+ year old midfielder who was rarely picked for their current club then moved clubs and had a really big impact?
He's 22 and has played 4 games this year and either been subbed on or off in 2 of them. This isn't Jordan Dawson (3rd in the B&F...
He's a restricted free agent next year. I wonder what offers he gets. Does someone go big and back themselves to turn him into the best player in the comp? It would be a big risk but with massive potential reward.
That's probably right. But the Blues game still had Stewart down back, Danger struggling first up from a spell and SDK playing his first game in the ruck and looking a bit shell shocked. The next 3 weeks were very promising.
There just seems no point in going back to Stanley or pushing Stewart...
The weekend might've been a reality check but SDK and Stewart into the middle actually made us look really dangerous at times in recent weeks compared to the rabble we were before that. And nothing from our defence has suggested we're overwhelmed without SDK and Stewart down there.
It's still a...
I haven't seen much of him. But unless the Gold Coast coaches are terrible judges of talent and his VFL stats misrepresent him then he's currently no better than Parfitt, O'Connor, Hardie, Clohesy, Knevitt, etc. Unless we've got some reason to think he can massively improve then it just seems...
It's interesting seeing Atkins be used as a put down. I think he's wildly underrated around here.
I do think Clark's ceiling is higher than Atkins though. He has similarities with the defensive hardness and tackling. And Atkins is a very neat kick on both feet without being super penetrating...
The point isn't about their age it's the idea that getting a game at Gold Coast is massively harder than here. It isn't.
We don't have an embarrassment of riches in midfield. But we've got plenty of borderline AFL mids. We don't need more. We need guys who can become A-graders and mids not...
I'm a bit surprised how short we are. But before last week we did beat Essendon, Hawthorn and Collingwood all pretty easily and looked to have found some form.
And as much as North have improved they've still only beaten West Coast who are terrible and Gold Coast who are terrible away from...
