Yes he seems to be the outlier among our players in terms of the ratings he gets. Apart from that I find it a pretty reasonable metric and definitely better than the pure fantasy points / disposals type approach.
That's a fair cop and we'll never know what offers we made to those guys (esp. Day who would have been perfect) - were they 'competitive' (i.e. within +/- 10% of what they accepted) or were they 'blockbuster' which made it hard to refuse.
I just don't think having missed out on the right...
That statement doesn't actually say anything without stating what degree of difference you're talking about. You're right it IS difficult to attract a player with no ties to SA to our club (putting aside for the moment if we happent to be an off-field basket case at that stage or not) and so we...
You're right that no-risk/can't fail superstar opportunities simply don't come along...but I reckon (per post above) that Oliver is three red flags and so he's not the right guy to go all-in on.
Like I said go chips in on an LDU with a long-term $1M+ offer or to pry out an up and coming star...
It's a reasonable question and you're absolutely right that 'do nothing' is not a viable response and we do have a structural problem with our midfield.
However I feel like the Oliver play would be a classic case of 'chasing our losses' and not a good risk-reward gamble.
I would prefer that if...
You'd like to think that Collingwood's desperation levels - and therefore Keane's value - is going up all the time at the moment. Doesn't mean we have to pull the trigger but hopefully there's something attractive on offer.
My take on Oliver is it's a pass unless there's an extraordinary deal to be had (e.g. we're paying half of his salary AND getting a 1st round pick ala Bowes). One red flag is probably needed for us to even have a shot at a marquee player (or else why would he and his original club part ways)...
It's a very good point...they have a plethora of quality small forwards which probably exceeds our supply of true lockdown small/med defenders (esp. with Hamill out injured). Unfortunately Smith, Nankervis and Hinge are going to need to match up on some of Watson, Breust, Ginnivan, Moore...
Here's my suggested changes:
Butts out is an obvious one; Borlase in is pretty like for like.
Murray out (take absolutely no chances with him - he's a key pillar of the team for the next decade); Walker comes in to give us maximum firepower up front and in recognition that the Hakws are not...
Press release from the Adelaide Crows:
The Adelaide Football Club would like to draw to the attention of the Essendon Football, the Australian Football League and the wider football community that there appears to be some confusion regarding the playing venue and associated logistics for this...
That wouldn't bother me in the slightest.
My view is that all of those guys (Murray, Butts, Keane, Borlase and Worrell (at a pinch)) are in the category of KPDs and so for the purposes of assessing our depth chart and working out who may be tradeable are somewhat interchangeable. With that...
I think it's time to be aggressive with our list management on all fronts - who we delist, who we trade out and who we trade in. Here's some of my initial thoughts:
Trade Out
One of Laird or Crouch - gotta be aggressive on this - I know they're both senior and probably don't want to go but we...
I'd like to see:
Himmelberg out <-> Thilthorpe in (the 22)
Smith out <-> Curtin in
Cook out (sub) <-> Hinge in
I think that's getting closer to not just a best 22 but also a team that has an eye to the future. Get Rankine back for Murphy and then keep a spot warm for Worrell and we're looking...
We’ve now seen that Dawson, Soligo, Rankine, Berry, Dowling, Rachele (ant an stretch) and Taylor can all deliver good midfield minutes. Maybe Curtin could be added to that list over the remaining matches of this season.
If we roll into the first 4-8 games of season 2025 with Laird and Crouch...
Definitely one of his very best games and noticeably he actually stuck some tackles which rounded out his game nicely. No problems keeping him if was consistently close to that level and not a defensive liability one on one.
I’ve said for a long while that our defence looked unbalanced without a genuine small defender back there. I think both Hamill and now Bond have both looked solid back there this year and it frees up Michalanney, Hinge and others to play a more attacking role. Definitely worth persisting with...
I've only seen one angle on Rankine's bump which was quite close up and doesn't really show what Starcevich was looking at when he was running back towards Rankine. Is there any other footage which shows either (i) that he knew Rankine was there and was consciously running towards him (possibly...
I suggested (probably forlornly) that they throw Laird back in that role with Hamill out but assuming that won't happen then I'd also like to see Bond given a go as it is a genuine need and that appears to be his only role so before we give him the flick let's see what he can do.
With Hamill going down with injury I reckon it's a chance to throw Laird back there and tell him this is your chance to lock down a permanent spot as a small rebounding defender for the next couple of years otherwise you'll be midfield depth or trade bait.
The emergence of Rankine as a genuine mid-forward (plus the continued uselessness of Murphy and McHenry) I think heightens the need to recruit a good quality small forward (Stengle anyone?). There's no other obvious option on our list that I can see to play that role so I think it's something of...
Yep it's the Fallacy of the Converse.
The famous example is:
If it is raining, the ground will be wet.
The ground is wet.
Therefore, it is raining.
In this case you could say that all (most) successful rebuilds in sporting clubs include a backward (non-linear) step at some point; however...
Great call - need to be surgically targeted in our recruiting and I do think he would tick all of the boxes we're looking and we can give him the one thing he can't get at the Suns...opportunity.
