Just as a whole, after that second goal of his. No one was particularly close to him when he kicked it but in this day and age, it was unusual that not a single player ran over to him.
Think it will be Fox, Roberts or Jordon as sub this week. Don't think they like having the same player do it two weeks in a row so that will rule out Campbell. Wicks has only played one full game in weeks so doubt it will be him.
17 AFL listed players. A strong looking side. Someone mentioned earlier that Green played down back last week, though not sure if it was for a lot of game time? Sometimes doesn't mean a lot but he is even named down back to start this week.
Good to see no mention of Blakey, Melican or McCartin. I'd guess only five players out of 44 on the injury list would compare pretty favourably in relation to other clubs? Three of them (arguably four?) in the best 23 though.
Strong looking team. 15 of named starting 18 from AFL listed squad plus former AFL listed Will Kelly. One would normally drop out as cover for seniors though. Imagine it would be Cleary. Also AFL listed Green on the bench.
Wicks as sub for mine. Ladhams, Francis and Cleary to miss out.
I know he is only named as an emergency but they must like what Cleary has done so far to put him there over say younger Warner and Mitchell who have been in the senior 22/23 so recently.
Had forgotten that in 1982, first season playing full time in Sydney for the club, they were still known as South Melbourne until June that year. From June until the end of the season they were simply known as the Swans.
Was only from 1983 onward that the club was known as the Sydney Swans.
With Rowbottom signing on for another four seasons, leaves 18 players who have contracts expiring at the end of this 2024 season. Of those, my personal opinion in importance of re-signings:
Tier 1: Gulden
2: McDonald, Florent.
3: Melican, Fox, Hayward, Cunningham
4: Francis
I don't envisage...
Wicks not even an emergency. Can only assume he is still in the doghouse with Horse and the hierarchy.
EDIT: And according to the club website info graphic, there is a debutant playing up forward by the name of Tom Paley. good luck to him in his first game.
