    Injury Report - Season 2024

    Shouldn't be a problem.

    Player Watch #21: Noah Balta

I've watched all the VFL games and he does well at full forward, but there are very few tall backs so has a big advantage. He evens ruck contests, and with his reach he can reach around them and has decent ruck craft, but he gets folded in half too much. He is back up and I have my doubts he...

    Player Watch #21: Noah Balta

Ryan can barely beat VFL ruckman.

    Player Watch #21: Noah Balta

We need mobile talls that hit the pack and mark the ball. For some reason Balta hasn't really done this, Lefau has at times, Kosi just doesn't seem mobile enough and good enough when he gets to the right place, maybe Young will. He seems to have good aggression at the ball. I would be surprised...

    Player Watch #38 Noah Cumberland

Really, pressure is the most important part of a forwards role. Charlie Cameron, Fritsch, Toby Greene and plenty of others primarily kick goals first, and pressure is a bonus. You can't win matches with pressure, you need those players who are naturally goal kicking forwards. The good sides have...

VFL Round 8 v Sandringham Sunday May 19th 12pm Trevor Barker Oval - LIVE ON 7

Were you laughing when Rioli got that 50m paid against him, or smashing the TV.

    Player Watch #21: Noah Balta

Why not put Balta back and Young forward. It didn't work with Miller because Miller is not a great reader of the ball in the air, and has no mongrel in him, which forwards need. But Young reads the ball well in the air, hence his spoiling ability, is mobile, a good kick and with a bit of luck...

Player Watch #27 Thomson Dow - signed to 2024

First half was average, I thought his last half was good. Gave out some quick handballs to the overlapping player that kept us going forward, transitioning. We had very few chains of play, but Dow was in many of them.

    Mid season draft 2024

Hopper and Taranto 100% he's lost weight. I think he is moving quite well. Not in form as yet, but I haven't noticed him being late to the contest, or missing what he had so much. Hopefully he gets a good run.

Autopsy Roast vs Brisbane & Changes for Dreamtime game R11

Three weeks ago vs Melbourne I thought he played his best game for the club.

    Player Watch #46: Ben Miller

Perhaps a tad overenthusiastic regarding replacing Nank, but he is really coming along well so who knows. Our backs have been swamped, but I think he and Young, who cops a bit of stick on here, have done really well. They are starting to mark the ball and are both good kicks. I feel more...

    Mid season draft 2024

Prestia may rebound, he's due some luck. Graham is not best 22 and loyalty is the only thing that has kept him best 22. Dusty is just up and running and will be 33 turning 34 next season. Nobody lasts forever. If we are relying on those 3 next season, and a few others, we are in misery alright.

    Mid season draft 2024

Good chance neither will be playing best 22 by seasons end. We will shortly start getting players back and some of the new young players are playing better than them, and others might come in still. Pickett is playing much like last season, mr. patch up, which is hard on him in some respects...

    Player Watch #38 Noah Cumberland

Why pose the question of IF the club see no future in him in the first place. Why would you even ask such a question so early in the season.

    Player Watch #46: Ben Miller

We had to try something. He has the tools for a forward, but for forward craft....

Autopsy Roast vs Brisbane & Changes for Dreamtime game R11

Smith has to come in this week. He has deserved it for a month or so now, and it is doing him no good running around in games like today's VFL. He has plenty of AFL attributes, and has done more than others.

    Looking at the positives

I thought Dow's first half was poor, handballs weren't creative, probably the opposite. But the longer the game went the better he got and was our best mid and transitioning the ball through creative handball to the outside runners in the last half. Might give him some confidence. Similarly...

Welcome Welcome to Richmond - pick 49 Kaleb Smith

Pickett was horrible until he had a job to do, which he half did no matter what the commentators were saying (looking for a glimmer of something positive)

Autopsy Roast vs Brisbane & Changes for Dreamtime game R11

Yze mentioned it preseason and time to do it, Rioli has to go into the midfield. He is a star, he is almost impossible to corral and he gut runs. Guaranteed he would be our best mid next week if played there, he and Bolton together would be great to watch.

    Player Watch #38 Noah Cumberland

He is still a bit undecided when he gets the ball. His natural instinct is to turn and attack, but he's been coached for a long time to share it around, hence some handballs backwards that didn't do anything or put players under pressure. Once he finds his feet and feels more confident it will...

Player Watch #27 Thomson Dow - signed to 2024

Prestia was a star, and no Dow will not be in a Premiership team you'd think. All I am saying is he is playing that role now, so no point going too hard at him, as there is nobody better right now. In 6 weeks or next season that may not be the case.
  23. G

    Mid season draft 2024

Yes that may be so, but what happens with injury. Hopper and Prestia in particular have struggled for years. A Newcomb type mid is what we need. MacAuliffe is most likely that type, but he's 18. Mid season drafts are there to help you out short term, if they flourish stay in the side even...

    Mid season draft 2024

That is what the draft is for generally. You can fluke a key forward out of the state leagues, but it's rare. We have a good draft hand this season, no need to panic just yet. Lynch is due some luck. We will have the cash to splash, which is probably our best option, but key forwards out of...

    Mid season draft 2024

Prestia is a week by week proposition. Hopper is 2-3 away and Taranto 3-4 according to this week on the Richmond website. There are some seasoned very good mids who play a hard, tough, game at lower levels. They have just as much chance as some tall key forward, more in my opinion, because...
  26. G

Player Watch #27 Thomson Dow - signed to 2024

Not exactly true. Dow gets to the fall of the ball and is often our first hands on player. When Taranto/Hopper play they are often first touch or putting the body over the ball which leaves space for Dow to hit the ball without the heavy bodies in there. He is good at that due to his agility...
  27. G

    Mid season draft 2024

I'm hoping we go for a ruck or mid. Next season we have, Lynch, Balta, Gibcus, Lefau, Young and Miller, who form a young but pretty exciting group of talls. Fawcett is an unknown. Going for a tall key forward at this stage of the season seems a waste. They are not going to come in and solve any...

Preview Round 10 v Brisbane GABBA Saturday May 18th 7.30pm - Sir Doug Nicholls Round

With his spring he has the ability to play taller than his height, but as you say he is not a big overehead mark type like Lynch is for example. But he is just learning the key forward caper, and taking the best backman, which will not happen if Lynch plays. Has surprised me with some of his...

Preview Round 10 v Brisbane GABBA Saturday May 18th 7.30pm - Sir Doug Nicholls Round

How is 195cm with a good leap not a tall. Seems to me the only one who can mark a ball on our forward line.
