    The Breust conundrum

There is no conundrum IMO. Breust will not command a place on our list next season unless it's going to be some unofficial playing/coaching role that will see him play mostly at Box Hill, and perhaps a few games in the seniors in case of injuries. We will have more than a few delistings, so it...

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

No team has had more superstars in the history of the game than our club. A successful team worth watching needs superstar talents who submit to the 'team-first' ethos. A bunch of mediocre-good committed players will rarely win a premiership, and when they do it will be dog ugly to watch...like...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Calsher Dear!

He is already very strong in the legs, which is why he can stand up in a contest, and he tends to fight for position early, so by the time the ball arrives he is at an advantage, but it looks like his opponent was not paying attention. He is only going to get stronger and this will maximise his...

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

I would take Battle ahead of a few players in our team. I am not sure who Perryman would displace. He is definitely better than a few now, but I expect those young peripheral players like Mackenzie, Ward, Watson, Macdonald, S.Mitchell et al to improve significantly. Solid player, free hit. Not...

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

This is not in dispute. Q is what is the depth composed of? We don't have gaping holes. We have competent defenders of all sizes. Competent mids of most types. Excellent small forward grouping. 3 KPF of various profiles. We don't need to add a guy who is just middling and will get in the way...

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

Unless we are looking to fill a specific need or targeting an elite talent, we should just let this squad develop and continue hitting the draft. I don't see the point in picking up players who are gonna be slightly ahead of more talented players already on the list. There's a lot of young...

If supercoach was your main concern, I'd agree.

A lot of people are underestimating Sicily as a forward. He would be a top 5 KPF if he played there permanently.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Connor MacDonald! Extended to 2026!

Macdonald is settled in the team, but the other two still prob play with doubts about their place. All still doing well IMO. I love to see the ball in McKenzie's hands.

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

On the topic of Harley Reid and his value, I would be prepared to trade quite a lot to get him. I'm talking Lewis, CJ, +2 first round picks type of package. I would not baulk at the addition of Nash/Worpel into that sort of deal either. Obviously we'd get something back like 2nds and 3rd round...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Pick 7, Cam MacKenzie, extends to 2026!

Yeah bro... you're right. It goes all the way back to 2001 tbh and the club has been sleepwalking to mediocrity ever since. Mitchell - slow, can't run. Hodge - poor work ethic, bit fat. Lewis - fat, no right foot, slow, Buddy - can't mark overhead, no right foot, zero pack presence, more of a...

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

I would not have traded a first round pick for him either… I like Worps, but whatever you think he was worth after his breakout season, that value was greatly diminished until he bounced backed last season. It would be further diminished had he injured his acl. Am I living in some...

Agree 100%. And it may well transpire that Smith's form two years ago was the high-water mark of his career. 2 down years is not something to ignore.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Ethan Phillips. 2024 SSP.

It was a joke. I’ve always been supportive of Frost and felt the criticism was way overdone. It was mental over the preseason. Looking ahead at list management decisions though, I think it will rest on whether the club views Blanck and Phillips as a viable partnership. They may want to...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Pick 7, Cam MacKenzie, extends to 2026!

MacKenzie will always be the kind of player who will be great at using the ball rather than be great in his movement with the ball. He uses his physical abilities to buy himself space/time and then uses his skills to perfection. I don't see him ever becoming that dynamic burst player with the...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Ethan Phillips. 2024 SSP.

Pretty clear frost has to go.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Calsher Dear!

Not as good as he would playing alongside Sicily.

So we let go the second best ruckman in the league for peanuts…

    Hardwick as a forward 2024

Hardwick and Sicily will give out forward line the leadership required. We’ve got too many young players or they’re new to the team

Autopsy Round 10, 2024: Hawks get pipped by Power

Good loss that will build character. Hurt is good.

I have not seen the lad play much at all but I saw in recent game clips he made two horrible clangers that cost goals. I’m talking frost at his worst sort of clangers.
  22. The Chad and I

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Ethan Phillips. 2024 SSP.

if he could play like Lake did with his intercept marking of high-balls then it will add something to the team. Needs to get stronger and bigger though.

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

I think with current KP defensive stocks we will be pretty stacked for options. Blanck, Frost, Weddle, Sicily, Scrimshaw, McCabe, DGB, Phillips. If we get Battle or Weitering, then DGB, Phillips and maybe even Frost need to go.
  24. The Chad and I

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

DGB is done regardless. Battle would be a huge win for us, but even without him I like the our defensive options.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Nick 'the Wizard' Watson!

Not a single regret for taking Watson. He’s been excellent. Get around him!

Sounds like peak-DGB to be honest.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Nick 'the Wizard' Watson!

There will never be another Cyril but I’m happy we have the first Nick Watson. Just keep in mind that for the first 3-4 years of Cyril’s career people were obsessed to distraction over turning him into a midfielder and complained that he did not get more disposals.
  28. The Chad and I

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Calsher Dear!

We got lucky w interruptions to his junior development. His vfl form would merit a top 5 pick in the draft.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Nick 'the Wizard' Watson!

Watson is killing it. I did not expect such a high level from him in his first 5 games. Keep in mind he had quite a nasty little injury for 4-5 weeks.
