I don’t think this will be their actual AFL guernsey just the ‘foundation jumper’ for their early pre-AFL years and honestly, that makes a tonne of sense, if they unveiled their actual jumpers today, those jumpers would be 3-4 years old by their first AFL match.
That pattern would make a great...
That’s my concern, if you took away the clunky stuff the game would be easy 100 point wins every game.
I’ve only really started using the advanced controls to add an extra layer of challenge, stuff like the player movement momentum system actually is a good idea if they can get it working...
I agree that the handballing could use some sort of aim assist or something because you need to be extremely precise.
I don’t mind the button combos being used, especially on the harder difficulties, because that’s realistic, sometimes you have to handball up and over an opponent.
This isn’t an issue if you handball out in front of the player, I’ve noticed the handballing is incredibly sensitive to direction so if you want to handball and keep the momentum going, you’ve gotta handball out in front of the receiver.
There’s two different aspects to this:
on one hand the movement has clear issues with the stuck in the mud problems
On the other hand, the gameplay can feel clunky af when you’re not using the advanced controls, even in twisties recent vid he was complaining about constantly handballing into...
Their engine is perfectly fine, their other sports games never suffered from these movement issues so hopefully they’ve fixed it.
From playing the game, I can see what’s probably causing the problem, a lot of the player movement is about keeping up momentum so if you handball behind your...
Disagree, I’d even like to see West Coast wear the gold jumper with blue shorts for one home game a year.
But the navy wings should be in their set in some capacity (royal, gold and navy), I don’t know what purpose it would serve but it looks good.
Yeah I don’t believe for a second that the ochre didn’t win that vote, I’ve been saying for a while that west coast take themselves too seriously to wear a “bad” retro kit like Freo did with the 3D anchor.
Most AFL games have been average at best and they keep making them.
As long as there’s a studio interested in making an AFL game, the AFL will give them the licence and if big ant continue to be interested then the AFL won’t pull the licence.
It’s also worth considering that the initial...
Games are ridiculously difficult to make, especially an AFL game, I don’t think it’s laziness at all but more so that it’s an issue that’s proving difficult to fix.
It’s easy to sit here and say that “this should be in the game” and “that should be in the game” but like I said, it took WW 5 or...
Takes like this are just ridiculous, if you aren’t a game dev how can you possibly say it’s lazy.
This in-depth tactics stuff was never going to be in the first game of a new series, it took WW 5 or 6 games before they got any half decent tactics and ai movement around the ground.
AFL 23 has...
I’m pretty sure JNT has said that the game has been worked on in the background over the off-season.
If limited testing resources has been the problem at big ant then I have no problem with them working on the game and testing over the off-season so hopefully when the 24 update comes out...
2K or Konami or any of these big studios will never take on AFL, it’s way too small an audience for them to make any money. You can’t seriously think this is in anyway a realistic possibility ?
I think most people get frustrated with the issues like ‘stuck in the mud’ and they give up before they get to where I am (which is understandable as the ‘mud’ issue is annoying)
But I’ve put up with a lot of crappy AFL games over the years and there’s a lot more good hidden under some of the...
It’s been there since day one, from memory it’s L1 + handball (on ps5)
If you’re using fends, evades, arms up or even just dodging the tackler it’s pretty easy to keep the ball moving and as I said before, sometimes when being tackled you can get a handball away, other times you can only kick...
You’ve really gotta take off you’re rose coloured glasses off when it comes to Live 1, that game was simply pick up ball, get tackled over and over again.
No AFL game has done contested play well, Evo 2 has maybe been the best in that area but it wasn’t anything amazing.
23 is by far the best...
Live 1 came out almost 13 years ago, it’s clearly not the same game and probably a largely different team of devs. WW had 4 or 5 consecutive releases and only got as far as Evo 2, if you’re being unbiased it’s pretty clear that 23 has a better gameplay base than every WW game other than maybe...
That “20 year old” game was also the 15th entry in that series over 15 years.
It took WW 5 entries before they even had any tactical options.
Of all the criticisms levelled at AFL 23 this one makes no sense, you’re kidding yourself if you honestly expected in-depth tactical options, gang...
Had a crack at redesigning every AFL teams guernsey, I tried to avoid using traditional elements as much as possible.
(Close up of each guernsey and a little explanation of each design can be found in the video below)
You’re talking about two seperate issues:
The stuttering animation is the ‘stuck in the mud’ issue, this needs to be fixed
Players only stop moving when you stop controlling them or switch players
Neither of these two are unresponsive user commands and the players will not stop moving if...
The user command response you’re talking about is the player building up momentum speed, that’s not an issue with the game not responding to user commands, the game is responding, you just don’t like the way it responds - you seriously talk about the game like you haven’t played it since the...
There’s an instant response when you move the stick in 23 but the players just take time to build up momentum (as they should), it could definitely use some tweaking as it can be too slow at times but it’s not broken, you’re just labelling things you don’t like as ‘broken’, there’s a big...
You could say the same thing about every AFL game though.
Even if Evo 2 had some sort of pack marking, you could still just bomb it long and it would usually lead to an easy score.
You can totally play a handball possession game but the difference is that in 23 you don’t just handball...
Can you stop with all this “the custom engine has taken its toll on the devs” stuff, you have no idea what’s going on in their offices and I’d guess the majority of us know next to nothing about game dev or how big ants engine works.
I still have no idea how you’re having such issues with...
I have no idea what invisible barriers you’re talking about, if you’re sprinting, your player will have a wider turning circle but there’s no invisible walls.
The genuine issue is stuff like the stuck in the mud problem but the rest seems to be people who just can’t play the game.
There’s...
The need to take your finger off sprint makes a lot of sense, if a player is going full pelt their reaction time will be slower and they should have to slow down for more precision - what you’re talking about isn’t unresponsive players, they still respond but your success rate of executing an...
