We created one chance that was a soda (McCarthy, even though that was from a quick kick not a pass). The theme continues, do we even do any ball movement practice.
It's skill & decision making. And frankly these haven't improved in years if not more. Defence ok, contested/clearance game fine - but the effort it takes us to kick a score v. others who can waltz it down the field. I genuinely wonder what our ball movement practice is during the week ... if any
Backs just turned over the forwards twice in a row in forward half transition. That brought Ross out. Next play S Hill hits Apeness.
This drill starts with a rebound half back to the wing, then coach arbitrarily gives a free kick/creates a turnover and broken play forward entry begins. Sheridan...
Barely 3 mins of goal kicking there from about 35m.
Crozier just flushes them, ball jumps off his foot. McCarthy lumbers but again like a golfer it just all comes together at Impact & he flushes them also.
Full field drills, the action just picked up.
Mundy, Tucker, Langdon & then Sheridan taking the first half back distribution roles with (I think) Luke Ryan with a white hat & tights.
Sandi v Tabs down the Eastern wing. Aim seems to be spread to back pocket then runner comes from the...
Hamling quite good in the tight handball drill, hopefully some IP coming over there. McCarthy definitely cracks in, seems to maximise his bulk when in contact. Kicking starting, I'll lead to Walters all day please. Lace out & to advantage side every time. If I'm honest it's hard to pick out...
At the open training. Early warm-ups so far.
Lachie walking the boundary signing autographs.
B Hill just glides. Grey leading his running pack. Suban chasing tail. Fyfe carrying a ball through most of his warm up. Logue got some great genes. It's amazing how agile Sandi is. Crozier seemed to...
Hope he grows a beard and he's a golf fan ... then we can call him Beef. On the vid though, loved the goal line tap through then in position to receive the kick in outside 50.
I watched the academy match the AFL streamed the other month and Petrovski-Seton just moved so well with great delivery on both sides. All the club recruiters who they had come through the commentary box were licking their lips when he went near it. Not to say he was the best on the day, but he...
I actually think all of the established younger brigade Pearce, Sheridan, Sutcliffe, Neale, Weller, Langdon, Crozier have shown enough and are young enough to be given some rein. All bar probably Sutcliffe were quoted as being creative types when they came through the door. Let them express...
We can use Barlows skill set if we got brave and played Fyfe forward. His goals per time spent forward must be ridiculous.
Yes the game starts in the mid, but unlike others Fyfe doesn't need clean delivery to score so a midfield that breaks even may work.
You're spot on with that contest, that was right in my line of sight. Needed to straight line and take the ball/contact.
In general though not sure why he is persisted with as a defender. His early games it was his kicking in open play and to advantage of forwards which impressed me. And his...
HAW are the great team, not WCE, and the Hawks are skilful all round. Further they take skilful players and develop their contested game to an AFL standard (eg Birchall, Duryea, Smith).
Some points well made yes, but when Barlow can't hit Pav from 15, when Taberner puts the ball on Pav's head...
Our senior players were average to good. Our younger players showed signs. Our ability to stop their run & turn it over were for all to see. Carlton kept us in the game to be honest with their own poor finishing in Q3.
To move forward I think playing the developing types is not enough, it's...
The coaches are though expecting a different result from a group that has never been skilled by foot (efficient yes, but never classy). We've always had the clangers to be fair. So the coaches take responsibility for some misjudgment.
