The NFL have a very complicated and biased fixture which doesn't seem to affect the competitive balance. All the US sports have uneven fixtures, which the conference system tries to fix. All it means is that you might be lucky to play a weak conference or division one year and unlucky to play...
Haha, Richmond usually finish 9th though so they're very balanced. It's more clubs like Geelong and Collingwood belting everyone else that throws it out. Melbourne's ineptitude and desire to lose rather than win hasn't helped either.
The AFL has a number of measures in place to ensure competitive balance between its clubs. The National Draft held in November each year and the salary cap are the two main weapons in ensuring clubs are not dominant over extended periods of time. Revenue sharing and manipulation of the...
Yep you're right I should have checked more closely and I agree with Fletcher and to a lesser extent the other two. My issue is more with Dyson, Lovett-Murray, Davey and Slattery. Can't really imagine any of them playing in our next Premiership or even in a top 4 side.

Like the idea. 50/50 contests are tough to assign negatives to though, how do you know who the direct opponent is? A regression analysis might come up with the values of a win at a stoppage and the +/- of gaining/giving away a turnover. Kicking or handballing out of bounds or to a pack that...
Just posted in another thread before I read this and you've said almost the exact same thing as me. Information can only be a good thing and trying to keep your information a secret except for those that are willing to pay top dollar is a sure fire way to start an opposition community who will...
Can't say I've ever really understood why the AFL don't make as many stats as possible public. Surely having as much information out there as possible can only be good for interest in the game. Look at Major League Baseball, it took a while but they finally got the got the stats out there and...
