Autopsy Round 7, 2026: Hawks destroy Suns

Good win from the lads. Worth the travel. Newcombe started quiet but managed to bully his way into the contest. Maginness earned his stay today. Was hesitant by foot but had impact in the contest and linked up well on handball chains. Impey is in fine form and Scrimshaw had a fantastic game...

PSA (before I implode) - note the spelling. Mark McKenzie Cam Mackenzie If we are going to talk about our players futures can we at least make sure we get the spelling of their names correct. Far out. Yelling into the ether that McKenzie is an untouchable player to trade but not even...

Congrats on the win. A really well rounded team performance that a lot of players were deserving winners of the Norm Smith. Lots to look forward to and plenty of improvements to come.

Voting done halfway through the 4th quarter unless its changed. Ashcroft, Andrews and Cameron were probably best on ground by that point.

To be fair it was a weird call to make him sub. With the half of footy he was capable for, it makes you wonder why he wasn't a starting 22 if anything. The bigger risk was not subbing Cameron when he went down the second time. I still can't believe they didn't pull the trigger instantly.

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn - Mabior Chol

Hmm. It would be an interesting argument to try and make. They would have to argue that this was a foreseeable outcome if that’s the case. I’m not sure they’d be able to do that convincingly but I also didn’t think he would get 3 weeks either so what would I know

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn - Mabior Chol

I think we have strong grounds to dispute the suspension. The rule basically states that if you pin the arms you have to make an attempt to mitigate risks of the head hitting the ground which he doesn’t do. However; 1. There was two tacklers. Butler had him first which his arms have slipped...

Autopsy 2025 Preliminary Final: Hawks get rolled

I thought we did try to play like that but credit to the Cats for stopping it effectively. They pressured the ball carrier and protected the space around them taking away those short quick options. We didn't adapt well enough in those moments. The glaring weakness this game was the clearance...

Autopsy Autopsy vs Collingwood aka the Great Pain Robbery

What a cracking game to watch as a neutral supporter. North were phenomenal today. Must be hard not getting the win but Pies had to play their premiership winning football to get over the line (plus a bit of help from some questionable decisions late). You’ll take a lot of learnings today...

I don't disagree but I don't think that's been the main factor causing our structures to falter.

    Game Day Round 24, 2023 : Hawthorn v Fremantle, MCG 1:45pm

Freo have really exposed our defensive structures this game. We peel off one man to pressure the ball carrier but that leaves them the obvious option to pass to next. Has happened throughout the year but not as often as this game. They've gotten so many easy scoring shots from it.

Player Watch Welcome to Hawthorn, Seamus Mitchell - Pick #29 2020 ND - extends to 2025! Round 17 Rising Star!

There's a few things here. Being injury free and a few more years in the system will always be beneficial for a player. He was drafted as a high half forward. I always felt his attributes always better aligned to the half back. I'm sure if you rewatch his draft highlights it would show as much...

Autopsy Round 3, 2023: Hawks skin the Roos

JHF and Tyler have two completely different challenges and circumstances. They are also received differently by their clubs (or past club for one). I think the intention is to have him play wing as a starting point. I think his attributes match that role better and will probably be a it under utilised in defense.

Autopsy Round 20, 2022: Hawthorn leave it late against the Aints

Ward, Macdonald and Morrison were the only three who played 4 quarters. Nash had a great first half and Maginness, Moore and Newcombe had strong second halves. It was good exposure for Newcombe to get attention again. Found a way to fight through it and make an impact. The kid is a gun...

Player Watch Welcome to Hawthorn - Emerson Jeka - delisted 2023

Jeka is not ready for a senior game in defense. I'm liking his work there atm but probably needs more time. His numbers look great but made some defensively poor decisions in all of his 2.5 games. I really hope he can put it all together because his field kicking is so damn good on both feet.

Player Watch Welcome to Hawthorn, Denver Grainger-Barras (delisted 2024)

Maybe I am easy to please but keeping his opponent goalless and not giving away a free was a welcome improvement. I get he is a high draft pick and people are expecting him to be a world beater sooner rather than later but he is (currently) punching above his weight class. Keep in mind that he...

Very impressed with Serong this game. Big step in the right direction. Needs to work on the finishes though. I was skeptical of a debut this year but he looks like an AFL quality player. Long has been busy but needs to use his body more and improve the output with clearances when around...

Worpel is actually pretty good with finding space at either level around stoppages and centre bounces. He does well to work his opponent to the opposite side of where he thinks the ball will drop and then pushes off said opponent gaining a heap of space to his preferred position. This element...

Played the role Howe usually does on the wing at VFL level. Had some good moments and some not so good moments. Pros: His running capacity was massive. No one could keep up with him. Seemed to have a bit more speed around the contest. Not that explosive stuff that looks appealing but just his...
