Yeronga look like they've picked up 1 or 2 very solid country footballers but the majority of their 'signings' are just depth guys - obviously a nice sentiment that they announce every signing and make everyone feel at home but can't imagine they'll be much better than last year.
Kenmore very low considering they've kept 75% of last years Grand Final team plus some solid youngins coming through. Maybe not the heights of last year but 3rd/4th at worst
Kedron looking the goods this year. Hung with Kenmore all day and were arguably the better performing side. Lowney, Allison bros, Elsmlie all looking good, another recruit (Plant?) as well. Surely play finals if they keep the guys on the park
Looks like they picked up a fair bit of depth but remains to be seen whether it will translate to the step up to Div 1. Obviously losing to a QAFL team isn't the best indicator to judge them on
Saw the round robin - think Cooly beat Kenmore by a couple of goals and then probably beat Carrara by the same margin. Look like a much better side than last year with a fair few senior guys from Yeronga and some young SHerwood guys
i would be all for it if I were a top 4 club. Current format is elimination anyway. This way you get a weaker opponent plus an extra week to prepare for a potential GF
Very fair point. I guess I’m just trying to view it from the leagues perspective as surely there has to be some valid reasoning behind not just starting the finals 2 weeks later. The fairest and most equitable outcome would be to play the final 8, but you also have to factor in the fact that...
Do you think it’s fair then if this finals series gets dragged out and a team wins a prelim and then has to wait 2-3 weeks to play the Grand Final?
I know your team has made the finals but I don’t see a huge deal with cutting numbers when teams 5 through 8 don’t have a Huge chance of winning in...
I think there’s also the issue of the league being afraid of more lockdowns, hence wanting to wrap the season up as quickly as possible. Which sucks but understandable
AFLq usually get first hand advice from health officials so you’d think getting ready for finals means there’s at least some optimism the hard lockdown ends Sunday. Safe to say it’ll be a fair while before things are back to normal but touch wood, there’s yet to be an outbreak in community sport...
Based on AFLQ announcement of finals series beginning next week if all goes to plan and a further 2 points for this round coming ladder should look like this for first week of finals.
Yeronga the big losers here. Redcliffe and Alex have moorooka and Jindalee to finish. Plus Kenmore have Gympie. I think it would be a bit unfair to them but can’t see how they reschedule this round
no excuses for Kenmore as they were beaten by a better side but didn’t help losing a key forward, key mid and tackling forward all before the bounce followed by 2 guys going down during the game. PR lead very well by Thomsen and Macanawai, no Cherry Kassaulke or Davidson makes it even more...
Kenmore going better than ladder position suggests, Sandgate were the better side and deserved to win but would’ve been a big upset missing their two best mids and no key forwards at all. Will at least make some noise in the finals
Nothing in that, Kedron are by far the second worst side (with all due respect, they’ve lost to Jindalee and Ipswich now) and Moorooka took it up to Alex Hills so I’d be putting them above all of those sides.
Gympie “only” losing by 150 to Moreton is encouraging in my eyes. Interesting to see...
No Wagner in the SQ side, assume hes opted not to play? Dom Killworth stiff too. Congratulations to Zach Templeton (Kenmore), Jacob Knight (Hinterland), Jaiden Patching (Redcliffe). Great achievement for this comp to have some representation.
I wasn’t saying they were past it, I was just trying to say that Wynnum aren’t the only team that have spent on qafl recruits. And yeah, saw Hivvy played on Saturday, according to sources was
Keeping his cards close to chest, hence the courting comment. Good pickup though, can play
Macauly Lonergan would walk into Sherwood ones, Hiovake Livesey is supposedly being courted hard by Sherwood, and despite your love of fat shaming Jayden Gallagher he’s played plenty of QAFL senior footy. Guarantee they’re all on decent coin too
