Autopsy AFL 2025 Round 3 - Bombers v Port Thurs March 27th 7:30pm AEDT (Marvel)

Highlight for me has been Soldo trying (and failing miserably) to imitate an AFL standard player.

Autopsy AFL 2025 Round 2 - Dogs v Pies Fri March 21st 7:40pm AEDT (MCG)

The reason Hawthorn lost the free count so regularly during that time is they played the percentages. They knew that the way the rules were being interpreted massively encouraged players to look for head high contact. They knew in a lot of those situations they were going to give a free away no...

    Autopsy AFL 2025 Round 2 - Freo v Swans Sun March 23rd 6:10pm AEDT/ 3:10pm WST (OS)

The most surprising thing about Peter Ladhams is that he's managed to convince a second club he's not a waste of space as an AFL player

Banter Who will be better in 2025? Carlton or Collingwood Part 5

Very true. The only difference is the standard that is accepted of them. The main reason the umpiring standard is slipping is the lack of accountability except in extreme cases or dubious decisions late in matches. If more people did what you did and called out an overall standard across a match...

Autopsy AFL 2025 Round 2 - Bombers v Crows Sat March 22nd 1:20pm AEDT (MCG)

I think Adelaide will improve massively on the last couple years. They aren't a threat to win the flag though. I think Adelaide are still a couple of years away from seriously challenging and I'd be predicting around 2027 / 2028. My prediction for top 4 hasn't changed from the end of last year...

Autopsy AFL 2025 Round 2 - Bombers v Crows Sat March 22nd 1:20pm AEDT (MCG)

As a 1 vs 1 body up defender he's outstanding. My criticism of him was purely around his work after that. I'd have subbed him off at half time purely to make a point. Effort isn't talent or ability based which is the main reason for that loss, Essendon's lack there of

Autopsy AFL 2025 Round 2 - Bombers v Crows Sat March 22nd 1:20pm AEDT (MCG)

Fair point. If tipping those games now I'd be tipping Adelaide to go 4-7 through that run. I think a realistic goal for Adelaide is to win half. Do that and they probably play finals.

Autopsy AFL 2025 Round 2 - Bombers v Crows Sat March 22nd 1:20pm AEDT (MCG)

All the last 2 weeks have shown us about Adelaide is they are now putting sides to the sword with big runs of goals when they get on top. Most of Adelaide's close losses over the last couple of years have been because they haven't put sides away when they've got on top so the 10 minute lapses...

Autopsy AFL 2025 Round 2 - Bombers v Crows Sat March 22nd 1:20pm AEDT (MCG)

The reason Essendon are getting belted in the air is the willingness of the players of both teams to work and put in an effort. Any player will hit targets more often than not if the opposition aren't putting pressure on them. Only 4 Essendon players I'd give a mark of above 80% for their effort...

Autopsy AFL 2025 Round 2 - Bombers v Crows Sat March 22nd 1:20pm AEDT (MCG)

He deserves it. A blade of grass would be more useful than him at the moment. The minute it's not a body up marking contest just stands there and let's his teammates run out of position to try and cover his laziness. Whatever North got for him was a steal given this effort.

Autopsy AFL 2025 Round 2 - Dogs v Pies Fri March 21st 7:40pm AEDT (MCG)

To be fair they were right about Houston. Has the potential to be the recruit of the season. Always been a very good kick. McCrae is just using him smarter than Hinkley did

Autopsy AFL 2025 Round 1 - Swans v Lions Sat March 15th 4:15pm AEDT (SCG)

To be honest I think both teams were lucky the other team was just as bad. Brisbane at least had an excuse for a lot of their mistakes. Difference in the end was the effort Brisbane players put in and a couple of players that were consistently clean in Bailey and Zorko. One of those games where...

Banter Who will be Better in 2025, Collingwood or Carlton? Part 4

Your observation is pretty spot on. Rance's strength was his ability to initiate early contact and then get into a wrestle where he could restrict his opponent enough that they couldn't get a good reach at the ball whilst walking the tightrope between good defending and giving away a free kick...

AFL Grand Final AFL 2024 GRAND FINAL: 2024 Premiers BRISBANE LIONS

If it's a Brisbane win come late Saturday afternoon I can guarantee you that Mills playing wouldn't have made a difference. There are always hard luck stories in a grand final. One thing that has been proven time and time again taking under prepared players into a grand final is a massive risk...

AFL Grand Final AFL 2024 GRAND FINAL: 2024 Premiers BRISBANE LIONS

Parker against Andrews is a recipe for disaster for Sydney. Unlike Alir, Andrews is actually a decent one on one defender. Alir is excellent as 3rd man up or loose but put an opponent on him and he goes missing as shown last week. A better result for Sydney is a player like Papley or Hayward...

AFL Grand Final AFL 2024 GRAND FINAL: 2024 Premiers BRISBANE LIONS

St. Kilda are worse. So are Freo and GWS. Admittedly that's more due to low number of grand Finals made than largely failing as Sydney have. Of the grand finals in the last 15 years Sydney have made this is the first one I'd have them as favourites and even then I wouldn't be surprised if...

Brownlow 2024 Brownlow Medal Count - Congrats Patrick Cripps!

The best way to ensure players get close to the votes they deserve is have a panel appointed that gives every player a rating out of 10 for every game they played. One of the issues is that by rewarding so few each game it exaggerates the impact of star players that don't have other star...

Brownlow 2024 Brownlow Medal Count - Congrats Patrick Cripps!

In a time when multiple players kicked 5 to 6 a game. If multiple players are doing it that means the rate for an outstanding game that warranted votes would have been higher. If multiple players are averaging 6 goals a game that means that this almost becomes the expected. Would we argue that a...

Brownlow 2024 Brownlow Medal Count - Congrats Patrick Cripps!

Hogan missed out with 5 goals but plenty of ball in a few games. Amartey had one with 9 goals. Suggests somewhere between those 2 depending on if there was a dominant midfielder.

Autopsy AFL 2024 Preliminary Final - Cats v Lions Sat Sept 21st 5:15pm EST (MCG)

Part of the reason Brisbane were down by 4 goals was that they persevered with that ruck option through the second quarter and allowed Geelong to continue their clearance dominance and momentum. Oscar O couldn't lift his shoulder to ruck, couldn't follow up around the ground and was getting run...

Autopsy AFL 2024 Preliminary Final - Cats v Lions Sat Sept 21st 5:15pm EST (MCG)

Won a lot of contests and fed the ball to the runners, played a solid game without being dominant. Was the most impressive thing for me about Brisbane's win, the number of players that contributed without being dominant. First time I've seen Ashcroft live and was very impressed with his game...

Autopsy AFL 2024 Preliminary Final - Swans v Port Fri Sept 20th 7:40pm EST (SCG)

Personally I don't think Hinkley's win loss record as a coach is that great. You can look at win loss record which is distorted by the fact that a large percentage of those games are against the bottom sides or you can look at win loss record against top 6 sides which is the true measure as...

Autopsy AFL 2024 Second Semi Final - Port v Hawks Fri Sept 13th 7:40pm EST/7:10pm CST (AO) Teams in OP

I thought Hardwick beat him in a lot of their one vs one contests. Most of Rioli's impact came from being a smart player and making the most of his chances which is often the difference for a small forward between a good night and an average night. Rioli played a very good small forwards game...

Autopsy AFL 2024 Second Semi Final - Port v Hawks Fri Sept 13th 7:40pm EST/7:10pm CST (AO) Teams in OP

Bobby Hill or Ginnivan in your team, who would you take. One tries to draw a high tackle free kick as his go to option, the other one is a Norm Smith medallist and played a lone hand in a forward line for a lot of this year through effort and hard work. That probably had a bit to do with him...

Autopsy AFL 2024 Second Semi Final - Port v Hawks Fri Sept 13th 7:40pm EST/7:10pm CST (AO) Teams in OP

There was a big margin between the top 5 and the rest of the competition. Carlton probably cruelled by injury to key players at a horrible time but Bulldogs and Hawthorn were always going to have to step it up a couple of gears come week 2. Hawthorn probably achieved above what could be expected...

Review The Week in Between - now we wait. Selection talk and other guff.

True. There's a difference between missing because of a skill error and missing because you are being a selfish tool though. That was the most impressive thing for me about Papley and Warner's last quarters there was no selfish I can do this myself which both can tend to do it was all about...

Review The Week in Between - now we wait. Selection talk and other guff.

Good start by Brisbane and then started to play like show ponies and let Carlton get their tails up. Plus too many of their players are suspect in front of goal and it will come back to bite them eventually.

    Autopsy Port v Crows - AFL Rd 23, 2024 - Sat August 17th 7:00pm (7:30 E) - (Adelaide Oval)

Both sides had been doing it all night. Umpires were just looking for it after the Houston incident so more got paid. Butters had been mouthing off all night, Crouch was being a flog all night.

    Autopsy Port v Crows - AFL Rd 23, 2024 - Sat August 17th 7:00pm (7:30 E) - (Adelaide Oval)

I think it was more that umpires were looking for the little snipes and faux tough guy acts to try and get the game back under control. Both clubs had been doing that all night, umpires were just looking for it so it got paid more.
