Aren't there already points loading in place for players moving teams regularly and especially those in the same league and/or division? Buyer beware, do your diligence and the player has every right to explore what opportunities present.

It often depends on the experience provided by the host. Get the viewing spots and catering right and it will be a great event. In my experience as a player and coach: Best Cramer Street - Good atmosphere, good viewing spots for crowd. Parking the obvious issue, but never had a problem...

A hard spot to replace with a strong key forward that is also very skilled as a ruckman. Must hang onto Harvey or the forward line looks pretty thin for forward 50 targets without replacements.

Bit of a drop in expectations for Laurimar? History suggests that Div 2 relegated teams don't fare as well as when teams drop from Div1 to Div 2?

It's always been a curiosity with overseas friends, Aussie rules (along with Cricket) are two sports where the size of the playing field is not standardised. It does create a stronger home ground advantage in many instances.

You do seem to have a bee in your bonnet about Lalor's ground. Thin wings? Lalor's ground is 5m narrower than Cramer street, and 7m narrower than Whittlesea. Not really enough of a differential to cause additional congestion, unless it is coached that way. Wind is a pain in the butt and can...

Then if they win the 2nd semi final, get another week off. Not sure you'd want too many key players playing one game in the five weeks leading up to a potential GF.

It's unlikely that it will be the norm. But you never know, for elimination finals and maybe a 1st semi, grounds like this may be a fantastic option going forward.

Then it being at Lalor should have no consequence on how the competing teams will be showcased as there are no guarantees? The norm is because the league wants to make the most money, not create the best experience for players and fans. Lalor is plenty big enough to host a quality game and...

Are bigger grounds automatically guaranteeing better quality games than smaller grounds? Not in my experience. Played Grand Finals at Cramer Street and one on a smaller Ground. The smaller ground had a better quality game and the atmosphere was incredibly better.

16 years ago I returned from an ACL after 11 months, and played ruck. If you do the rehab right, it wasn't the knee that was the issue, it was the damn hamstrings when the intensity goes up a notch! I would expect recoveries and medical support have improved in that time so 10 months isn't a...

This was definitely an observation in a practice match early this year between Banyule and Fitzroy, where Banyule had slow tempo from the back half and relied on the contested ball and getting into their forward half to lock it in. Fitzroy were a bit of a counter punch style, with quicker...

    NFNL Div 2 discussion 2024

The premier divisions (A-C) are where the quality is, it drops off badly from there. The top end of B grade would compete well in Northern Div 1. The lower divisions are poor and the travel factor makes it a difficult prospect to build rivalries and attract players

Fair enough. I would imagine the challenges around umpire availability and player retention are felt across all leagues. Having 7 men's divisions, 6 women's, plus 19's, 23's and masters is quite a lot of games to service every week. Without the burden of player payments helps clubs in one aspect...

A shame that Almost Football Legends isn't around any more, with a classic at the Snake Pit on the Weekend with De La's Indovino marking on the goal line and then deliberately kicking it into the points, thinking they were the goals. Went full Malcolm Blight mode :tearsofjoy:

Both sides would have been happy to have a competitive hit out against a quality team. Fitzroy are still relatively young and built up across the back half of last year and were unlucky not to progress further into the finals, the elimination final was a cracking game. Banyule have some quality...

Interesting to watch the Banyule v Fitzroy practice match on the weekend, with the differing styles across the two leagues evident. Banyule with a slow and patient back half possession style, whilst Fitzroy (similar to a number of VAFA teams) a quicker pace from the back half. It was an arm...
