Autopsy Round 8, 2026: Hawks bottle it

Having slept on it, I’m taking the glass half full approach and believe this is a game we needed to have to expose some chinks in our armour that need some work. To walk away from those with two points is helpful… often they’re 30-40 point losses to get those learnings.

Autopsy Round 8, 2026: Hawks bottle it

Try to be objective. I don’t agree with the sentiment here that it should’ve been a big win. Collingwood had a deliberate strategy to squeeze the space in our forward line with numbers behind the ball. That was always going to result in high amounts of I50s for us and we didn’t at any stage...

Autopsy Round 7, 2026: Hawks destroy Suns

Nice to be out on the width of UTas after struggling to transition the ball against Port at Marvel. Port have also shown tonight that last week’s close call was against an opponent worthy of more respect. I think in the third quarter we can take a few learnings. We definitely miss Chol as a...

Preview Round 6, 2026: Hawks V Port, 4.15pm Saturday 18th April, Marvel Stadium

I hope we don’t manage anyone unless it’s clear they’re banged up. 8 games until the bye, would be good to bank as many wins and go in with 10+ wins. There’s a four week stretch in July where we play Carlton, Richmond, Essendon and North where we can nurse some sore bodies through.

    2026 AFL Fixture

Great fixture. Strange to see how close together our Bulldogs (8 weeks), Suns (8 weeks) and Dees (7 weeks) double up games are.

Hoping that means we play Port in Melbourne for once, (potentially our Marvel home game)

Unofficial Preview 2025 Hawk's Hypothetical Trade Discussion...now with added DFA spitballing!

I’ve got more confidence in the guys on the list stepping up in the midfield than any of the delisted free agent options. I’d personally like us to go after a high upside pressure small forward to open up Moore, Watson, Croc etc It’s not lost on me that Zac Bailey’s game opened up with...

Unofficial Preview 2025 Hawk's Hypothetical Trade Discussion...now with added DFA spitballing!

I wonder if Impey could offer a different look around stoppage on occasion. If Noodle does get more playing time from ruck rule changes, I could definitely see that type of stoppage player being useful as ruck work becomes a bit more precise again.

Unofficial Preview 2025 Hawk's Hypothetical Trade Discussion...now with added DFA spitballing!

Things I hope to see: - this fuelling rivalry that gives us 2 matches against the bombers for the next few seasons (and therefore two free wins each season) - Ginni rocking the jab cellie in rnd 1 to put us up by 15 goals. Maybe even high fiving Merrett on the way past. - whoever we pickup...

Also all their carry on is going to make it difficult to convince any players to actually go there in a trade. People keep floating out players to include, but why would anyone choose to go there over another club. It’s the worst possible advertisement for potential incoming talent. Just look...

Unofficial Preview 2025 Hawk's Hypothetical Trade Discussion...now with added DFA spitballing!

It actually doesn’t make sense. Says the club is bigger than the individual, then basically holds the individual ransom to the club as though isn’t big enough to cope without him. Not trading him is basically keeping him for two bottom 4 years and then watching him bail for much less when his...

Unofficial Preview 2025 Hawk's Hypothetical Trade Discussion...now with added DFA spitballing!

Another win from all this is that the AFL will want to capitalise on the drama and fixture two Haw vs Ess games next year. So we’re 2-0 in 2026 already

    Mt Rushmore- Teams

For hawthorn I’d have John Kennedy Snr and Leigh Matthew’s as definites. Then you could make an argument for Tuck, Dunstall, Hudson or Hodge based on your preferences. If Mitchell has some premiership success as a coach then he is probably in the conversation too.

Fixture Hawks after Tasmania? Sponsorship extended to 2027!

At the ground a lot of fans moved out of the rain on level one up to level four, so it would’ve looked emptier on tv than a normal 50k crowd.

News We’re at Dingleyland! First open training, December 6th!

Granted I was 10 at the time, but my recollection of the merger was we were losing much more than the name, we were effectively being absorbed by Melbourne and given the hawks name and less than of the players on the list because, well, we had to be given something. It felt like a takeover. My...

News We’re at Dingleyland! First open training, December 6th!

I’m not taking a side, but the merger vote was almost 30 years ago and probably attended by a good portion of older members who actually watched games at Glenferrie (we were still based there at the time). I’m almost 40, and the hawk and the colours are the constant for me.

Fixture Hawks after Tasmania? Sponsorship extended to 2027!

Going to Tassie was simple and relatively inexpensive. I could justify going to a game every year on my own or with the family during the school holidays. Would be unlikely to consider going to Cairns more than once in a 5 year period.

The Run Home 2025 - Project Your Optimism or Pessimism Here

If Brisbane beats Freo, Adelaide beats Collingwood and we win both games, then I think we’d likely be 4th or 5th based on % vs Collingwood (assuming they beat Melbourne).

The Run Home 2025 - Project Your Optimism or Pessimism Here

There’s a few 50/50 games of top 9 vs top 9 but these are the top 9 vs bottom 9 games where an upset is most possible (although unlikely): This week: Brisbane vs Sydney Port Adelaide vs Fremantle Carlton vs Gold Coast Next week: Sydney vs Geelong Last round: Collingwood vs Melbourne Port...

    Who's improved in 2025?

I’m going to leave out guys who have had relatively incremental improvement or have lifted consistency, and focus more on the guys who have levelled up by either becoming more complete players or just taking their best to another degree. Josh Ward has gone from a promising fringe player to an...

    Preview Round 20, 2025: Hawthorn v Carlton Thurs 24th July 7.30pm MCG

So far Thursday looking like the only day without any rain. Fingers crossed it stays that way and we can get a half decent crowd. Last home game at the G was the Brisbane one I believe… absolutely itching to get to this one! On the game itself, I just don’t see how Carlton score enough to...

    Preview Round 19, 2025: Hawks v Power, 1.20pm Sat 19th July, UTAS

Lot of talk about the key forwards but a real issue now is the second ruck. Not playing Ramsden in conjunction with Weddle being injured is problematic. Neither Lewis or Dear ruck anymore, and Chol doesn’t really either (if there’s no goal scored for a centre bounce while Meek is resting then...

Preview Round 17, 2025: Saints v Hawks, 7:40pm Sat 5th July, Marvel Stadium

Wouldn’t be overly worried about NWM. With our talls going as they are in the air and out the back, if the Saints half backs want to roll up and attack they’ll get burnt the other way. We defend transition just about as well as anyone. Bailey Dale was in ripping form when we played the dogs...

Preview Round 17, 2025: Saints v Hawks, 7:40pm Sat 5th July, Marvel Stadium

If Worpel is fit he probably comes in for Butler. He’s shown promise but there isn’t room for he and Mackenzie at the moment. If Sicily is fit he probably comes in for one of Seamus or CJ, either who would be incredibly unlucky. Dear was excellent in the VFL but Ramma deserves another week...

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Pick 37, Henry Hustwaite - Debuts against the Dees!

He hasn’t yet developed the intensity required for him to succeed at AFL level, where he doesn’t have the talent and ruck advantage that he has in the VFL. That can take time but hard to get those persistent opportunities in a competitive side needing wins now. There are players in front of him...

    Preview Round 14, 2025: Hawthorn v Adelaide Crows, 13 June 2025, 7.40pm @ UTAS Stadium

If Worpel doesn’t get up, I’d just be keeping Finn rather than bringing in HH or Frenchie. Between Newc, Ward, Nash, Butler, Moore and then Finn as potential chop out if needed, I reckon there’s enough there. In: Wiz Out: Worpel If Scrim gets up I’d bring him in for CJ.
