Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

so am I, however, I do worry about throwing money around recklessly just because we have some. Needs to be targeted and strategic. I have visons of Llyod Christmas handling money.

Autopsy Round 5, 2024 - Suns destroy hopeless Hawks

Agree. Or perhaps in the backline. We need to find out if he can play at the level before end of year. What is his contract status? At present, its doubtful he would be renewed if OOC at year end. He and Connor Mac don't look to have put on much strength since last year. They need to be...

Rumour 2024 Hypothetical trade and FA Thread

I have waited a while for the disappointment to subside after a truly awful performance last night. No point continuing to bash the team, so will look at the small positives, particularly for those not considered our elite. 1. Gold Coast are building very nicely chock a block with high end...

Game Day Round 5, 2024: Suns v Hawks, 7:30pm, People First Stadium

We are applying a lot of good pressure but getting no reward from the umpires. Should have several tackles rewarded. We don’t have the talent they have. Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com

Player Watch Welcome to Hawthorn: Mitchell Lewis. Extended to 2026!

Lewis will bounce back. However, regardless of injury, he took the field in the first 3 games and has played like a player taken at the very end of the draft and lucky to be out there, let alone with a long contract. Emotions aside, this is hard to argue on present (2024) exposed form. Lewis...

Preview Round 5, 2024: Suns v Hawks, 7:30pm Sat 13th April, People First Stadium

Id make one change. HH out to get another good hit out at BH, and Serong as sub. If a midfielder goes down, Ward to the mid, Weddle to wing and Serong to backline. HH has plenty of time and I think Butler and Serong need opportunities to have a good crack. 3rd year in In the system for them...

Autopsy Round 4, 2024 : Hawks get Pied

There is a lot of talk questioning CMac and Weddle in this forum. I am not sure what the go is with Cmac right now. He has had an OK start to the season but quiet yesterday. What is clear to me however, is he has a lot of class and his big games are ahead of him. Weddle is obviously being...

List Mgmt. Hawk's List Management 2024

I think that is a pretty good summary. However, after watching some of the young guns running around at North and others, I feel we still lack some really high end talent. It does seem we are destined for another bottom of the ladder finish, so i believe we need to go hard at the top of the...

Great young player. Bulldozing through the pack is not his go. Id love him at the Hawks and have no doubt he will be a great of the game barring injuries. Both D boys go really well. Super skilled

Autopsy Round 1, 2024: Hawks fail against Bombers

i have not seen anyone mention this yet, but i thought our tackling technique was very poor. Too many broken or missed tackles allowing * to thrust forward. Several of their goals came from missed tackles that good sides just don't allow. Compare us to swans or Carltons defensive tackle...

Funny thing. He is now 27 with all those years of strength and development into him. 25 to 28 yrs old does seem to be the sweet spot for top line consistency and peak. I hope our guys keep on the up, as it means 2026+ should be our era. Wishful thinking?

    Academies

First round picks is semantics. Sydney has 5 academy picks in their top 23 this year. Heaney, Mills, Gulden, Blakey and Campbell. That is a huge leg up in my eyes. Particularly when they can package picks and get two top 5 picks in a year (Campbell and McDonald)

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn : Pick 7, Cam MacKenzie, extends to 2026!

Butler obviously has talent and reports on how well he is training this preseason show he has desire and work ethic......but, I am yet to see anything outstanding (out of position?) which will get him a game unless we sustain more injuries ( so only by default). I too would like to see him...

is there a ssp draft order? For example, if hawks make phillips an offer but north also make an offer (hypothetical), can he choose which club to go too or is it FIFS or the order of the draft. If say north offer first can he reject that and then accept a Hawk offer?

Welcome Welcome to Hawthorn: Pick 37, Henry Hustwaite - Debuts against the Dees!

I have a feeling we will see Hust in side with in the first month and then be very hard to displace. He has a point of difference and will improve rapidly with game time IMO.. Don't ask me who he replaces as I have no idea.

Unofficial Preview Round 1, 2024: Bombers v Hawks, MCG 1:10pm Sat 16th March

I am not sure Mitchell is in the best 23 for now. Needs to get back to full training and show improvement, build on last year.. Don't underestimate Serong or Bailey Mac in that back line either. Gunners needs to be fit, but does offer so much to our forwards re experience and guidance. I wonder...

Training 2024 Preseason reports and discussion

For those able to get to training occasionally, what does Serong look like physically. I have high hopes for him, however, based on photos on here, he looks lighter than DGB. Well toned, but not a monster in any way. I don't see him as a stronger body on body type defender at present.

Training 2024 Preseason reports and discussion

It will be very exciting to see some of our youngsters develop. Of the blokes outside most peoples 22, I am looking forward to big years from Butler, Bailey Mac and Serong. If these types come on and the mainstays keep their form, we will have a good year. It will be vital for us that Reeves...

Unofficial Preview Round 1, 2024: Bombers v Hawks, MCG 1:10pm Sat 16th March

I suspect Sam is throwing ideas around to see what our best team is and what positions players fill. (see Nash as an example) He is not going to be blinkered by automatically slotting a player into their past role, just because. Plus it builds knowledge of who can play where if needed to throw...

List Mgmt. Hawk's List Management 2023

I don't disagree with any of the earlier comments on Scrim, but the fact is if he doesn't increase his consistency and assertiveness, he will play most of the year at BH and probably be up for trade at years end. All the tools, but seems to lack a bit of desire?

Unofficial Preview Round 1, 2024: Bombers v Hawks, MCG 1:10pm Sat 16th March

I have Connor Mac as my "breakout year" this coming season. I see a forward/mid balance adding class to both lines. Unfortunately, i don't see the same with Frenchie for now. Still developing and needs to adjust to the game speed a little better. 2nd year in could be totally different to the...

Player Watch 2024 AFL Draft Thread

AFL to change the rules re NGA. Hawks finish 9th and trade pick 9 + plus change for a top end player (maybe Smith, but perhaps a KPP). Match on Moraes with a bunch of nothing picks, trade our F1 and jump back in for Jobe Shanahan 192cm utility, then pick up baby Maginness with our last pick. Job...

Player Watch 2023 AFL Draft Pool Discussion Thread

I suspect we may ultimately put him on the LTI for the first half of the season. I assume that is allowed with permission, but would only happen if we wished to play perhaps Bennetts to see what he can offer?

Opinion 2024 new player jumper numbers

I agree with the reverence for #23 - Peck, Scott, Dermie, Buddy, all greats of our club. BUT, buddy left almost a decade ago. IMO, the only special and legendary number is #5 after the great & courageous Peter Crimmins for more reasons than just his ability to play. It must be reserved for...
