The Offical Neil Harvey Classic Quotes Thread - Some real Beauties in here

I remember Neil Harvey having a go at Allan Border and suggesting that he'd have taken apart the 1980's Windies fast bowling attack, which was kind of funny considering Harvey's record against the likes of Fred Trueman and Frank Tyson. I've yet to meet a serious cricket fan who takes Harvey...

    Bill Lawry apreciation Thread

I'm only a theoretical Victorian (born there but raised in SA) but I have to admit Bill was good tonight. Long may he continue!

    The Indians speak for themselves.

    Bradman sixes

Nope? My mistake. I was drinking that night, so I was only a ball out. That was a good win though, that game.

    Bradman sixes

I remember he hit a 6 off the first ball in an ODI against South Africa at Port Elizabeth- the famous one where they set us 327 to win, and we got them.

    Bradman sixes

Bradman didn't like to take risks so he didn't hit very many. That's not to say that he couldn't- he scored a century off about 19 balls in a grade match once, he just didn't fancy giving the opposition a chance to get him out.

    3rd 3 Mobile Test Match: Australia v India @ Perth (Wed-Sun) [2]

Re: 3rd 3 Mobile Test Match: Australia v India @ Perth (Wed-Sun) Good over, Roy. But it's all far too late- India already have too many runs for us to chase down.

Re: 3rd 3 Mobile Test Match: Australia v India @ Perth (Wed-Sun) Brett Lee bowling. Finally!

My cynicism-meter just hit critical levels.

    3rd 3 Mobile Test Match: Australia v India @ Perth (Wed-Sun)

Johnson is no bunny- he got a half century against the Sri Lankans in the tour game in November. He'll need to be at his best this time though.

    Hussey Ave = 84 after 20 test

England were a good team in the 30's and 40's though. Hussey's going to be a real champion it's odd that more isn't made of him. He needs to put together a really good Test knock that is huge- he's been more scoring consistently rather then massively. By this I mean he needs to start putting...

    Which squad is better????

In general, Waugh's side had the better bowling- while Ponting's side has the better batting. There were some great come from behind wins in both streaks so it is REALLY hard to separate the two. I'll go with Ponting's side, simply because Adelaide in 2006 was just so wonderful. Beating the...

Who agrees with me: Aiden Blizzard will play for Australia

He's just a kid, really. Anything could happen. But if he's willing to knuckle down and do the work, who knows? At this stage, from what I've seen, he's really good at punishing bad bowling. He now needs to prove himself against good bowling.

    The Official Brett Lee Thread

Not sure about the AB Medal but he'd be close to the Test Player of the year. I'll be upfront- Lee has certainly surprised me the way he's put his hand up in this summer's Tests. On this showing, he's the real deal. The only question is, why have we had to wait this long?

Tait to push 170kmh mark, "Lillee"

Damn, Bruce Reid... now there was a great fast bowler. Pity about all the injuries. We would have won the Frank Worrell Trophy in 92/93 if he'd been fit.
  16. S

Tait to push 170kmh mark, "Lillee"

160 would be quite terrifying enough for our Indian friends, given the bounce and lift of the WACA track, at least, if it's anything like the pitch we saw in the Twenty20 against NZ. I'm not sure what DK Lillee had for breakfast, but my own guess is that Tait will get it into the high 150's...

Urgent!!! Is the 3rd test going to be televised in full on any Channel???

Nine's treatment of the cricket rights is an absolute disgrace, and it has been for years. Shame on Cricket Australia for allowing them to get away with it.

    Pollock retires

I'm not a fan of South Africans- when they are playing England, I support England! But it must be said that Pollock is a damn fine cricketer and he will be sorely missed.

    MOTM- S.Africa vs W.Indies

I wasn't aware of this MoTM award, but having watched a fair bit of that Test, I have to say this does really stink of a quota award. I wonder how Prince himself would have felt about it?

Is Dale Steyn the best young fast bowler going around in International Cricket?

It is good to see new bowlers like Steyn emerge. We certainly need more quality bowlers in world cricket, the last few years have been ridiculously slanted in favour of the batsmen.
  21. S

Who is the best young spin bowler in Australia?

Australia hasn't had a top-class finger spinner since Ashley Mallett, so we're overdue for a good one. Though I'm a bit surprised to find that Michael Clarke's name isn't on the list!
  22. S

    4 pace bowlers at WACA?

Of that quartet, I think Stuart Clark will actually cause the most discomfort to the visitors. He's very tall and it's the bounce that he'll get that will really worry the Indian batsmen; Lee and Tait are more fast and skiddy sort of bowlers- and while they'll revel in the pace of the Perth...

Have India backed themselves into a corner?

I'm not saying that he's corrupt. I'm saying that he will be following 'guidelines' that the ICC will have given him. It's like trains- they follow the tracks(guidelines) and arrive at the required destination. No corruption needed. Which is why I'll be gobsmacked if Harbhajan is not cleared.
  24. S

Have India backed themselves into a corner?

It leaves it wherever the BCCI want it to be.
  25. S

Have India backed themselves into a corner?

The new ICC appeals judge from New Zealand knows very well that his job is to overturn the ban on Harbhajan. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that he's been given instructions on this regard, and I would be gobsmacked if he upheld Proctor's conviction.
  26. S

Will Harbhajan play in Perth anyway?

Yeah it would be odd if they picked him, but they've got themselves in a situation where to show team solidarity they pick him anyway. The only other thing they might do is axe Yuvraj Singh and play Pathan at 7, moving Dhoni at 6. Obviously there's danger in that course of action as well.
  27. S

Why is Neil Harvey such an idiot?

He's been doing this for years. I remember back in the early 80's he was saying that Allan Border was a 'no hoper' as a batsman, not in his league at all. Ever since then I've ignored Harvey's views, he's just sad and twisted.

    Who to replace hayden

Given that this is just a short term appointment I'd go for Katich- Dave Hussey might be the next big thing, but only if a slot comes up in the middle order. Kato did fine against India last time they were here, and he's in great nick, so he's the guy for me, with Mr Cricket to open.

    "Spanky" Roebuck's latest offerings...

Not sure what to make of this- sounds to me like he's having a 'bob each way' to me... http://www.theage.com.au/news/cricket/peter-roebuck/2008/01/08/1199554654282.html?page=fullpage#contentSwap1 Can't imagine an Australian cricketer being too happy with that comparison either. I...
