Not sure if anybody is watching the mens road race at the moment, but it has been great to see the effect of a proper climb on the field.
Anybody else think that odd bike change (where he randomly kept his front wheel) and then crash was incredibly weird, and suspicious?
Winner will come from...
Excellent finish.
I was worried about the design of the course, but because it was uphill in the last 2km, it worker perfectly.
Great sprint by Valverde.
Was he there for a holiday?
I'm certainly not a Porte hater, but given the amount of money he's on and the fact it's his last tour for BMC, surely he's not just there for the experience?
Kinda off topic, but I was listening to an older Lance Armstrong podcast from when Froome had his "analytical reading". He really tears into the Vuelta. Absolutely hates it.
Vuelta has always been my lost enjoyable GT. Mostly for the scenery, but there's some great racing in Spain.
A Yates brother will win the Vuelta. I don't think Nibali has the form. If Tao Geoghegan Hart rides, I think he will finish top 8. He just finished 5th at the Burgos and the course looks suited to him- he has a very powerful engine.
I posted on another forum during the Giro that Chaves looked like had mononucleosis or a fatigue related virus. Glad to see it diagnosed, he comes across as an excellent guy and I'd love to see him top a podium at a GT.
I honestly don't know what more they can do, other than pray to the rain god's?
Perhaps swapping the team time trial for a 30 or 40km time trial with half on cobbles? That would be quite drastic but I think it would certainly break the field up considerably.
Sharper climbs perhaps? I'd...
He has another year on his contract- reported to be worth more than a million dollars a year. I also think he was pissed at not riding the tour in 2017. Disappointing though, I would have liked to have seen him lead a tour of his own at Sky for a GT which looks unlikely now.
This guy will win a grand tour within the next five years.
He's British cycling's next chosen one, and almost won the Tour of California this year. He had a chain slip at a horrible time during stage 2 and was then forced to work for Bernal for the rest of the race (who ended up winning quite...
It certainly didn't appear to be downhill. The finish was uphill, but it appeared to flatten out before the line. The camera angle could have been deceiving, but that's probably the most suspicious thing I have seen relating to a motor in pro-cycling.
Chaves did everything right last night, but is beginning to look tired. He just couldn't get a gap. Made for great viewing though, he had a real crack.
This has been one of my favourite stage races for a couple of years and the daily backstage pass interviews with Chaves and the team have been awesome.
