The SANFL should have given Port annually the same share as each of the other 8 clubs received and then made Port pay the going rate of $400k/season.
Furthermore, the SANFL should have made all their handouts to Port as repayable loans.
Off the top of my head i would imagine that Port probably received more money than the other 8 real SANFL Clubs combined instead of only a 1/9th share.
Everyone is sort of correct - the confusion arises because of the way the AFL names the various drafts - it names the main draft by the year the draft is held in but then calls the subsequent rookie draft by the following year, even though both are now held in the same calendar year:

The most important part of the process is first getting JHF to choose our Club ahead of poort and subsequently the trade details will take care of themselves.
For all he has done on field and off field, he's given his heart and soul to the Club, he's been unfairly bashed from pillar to post by the AFL media - he deserves to be picked for as long as he wishes to play (provided of course he is performing).

My original thought was that he doesnt fit into our rebuilding phase and would take games away from younger players, however, i'm now thinking that if he came cheap tradewise (say 2nd round draft pick), then it may be a positive for the AFC in...
Hmm positive news to some is negative news to others.
In the context of a long-term aim of building a premiership team , IMO a re-signing of Crouch & Kelly would be very negative news.
