Is it just me or do the Braves still look a little disjointed offensively this season?
Acuna, Olsen and Riley have had a few good moments, but haven't reached the heights of last season, the home runs aren't coming as freely as last season, they are currently on target for around 190-200 homers...
I wouldn’t say Acuna has set the season alight yet, although he hasn’t been too bad, and a couple of "experts" have said that Riley and Olsen have been a little slow out the blocks, but Albies, Arcia and Harris have looked very good.
The Braves didn’t really rest any of their starters last season so they may have been a little fatigued coming into the playoffs, but then they had a first round bye and didn’t play for 6/7 days. The year they won the World Series (2021) they were playing every second day and got into a routine...
I wouldn't say the Braves have been toothless against the Dodgers over the last few years, they beat them in the NLCS is 2021 on their way to the World Series and 3-1 n Dodgerland only a month ago. Overall LA lead 11-8 during the regular season and the Braves lead 7-6 in post season matches...
Not convinced about the Astros, they may be defending champs but I don't think they are as strong as previous seasons., I think the AL champs will come out the East, either the Orioles or Rays. It's a shame they will likely play each other in the ALDS.
The Braves are obvious favourites for the...
The Finals Bracket.
I'm a little concerned that the Phillies are our potential NLDS opponent, especially with our pitching not in the best shape at the moment.
Terrible umpiring, shouldn't have gone to extra innings, the Cubs got a run off a foul ball and all four umpires missed it.
Saying that, it did give Acuna an extra innings to create history. :D He has been on a different wavelength all season.
The Braves come back from 6-0 down against the Cubs to win 7-6 and in the process become the third team to score 300HR's in a season.
The record for the most HR's in a season is 307 by the Minnesota Twins in 2019, so the Braves, with 301 have 5 games to score 7HR's to break the record.
Phillies have qualified for the finals. I was really hoping these guys would have a mega-choke and lose their last 8-9 games and fail to qualify, but it wasn’t to be. :(
I’m confident the Braves can beat the other contenders in a seven-game series but the Phillies worry me.
I don't think there is any doubt about Acuna winning the NL MVP now, going into the series against the Dodgers in early September, Betts had legitimate claims but Acuna's put that to bed with an amazing series and then backed it up in following three weeks, and in process created records that...
Nice to see the Braves back to the best after a week off partying. :)
Acuna hit another two homers and stole another base to move to 39HR's and 67SB's for the season. He also reached 100RBI's for the season. Amazing season.
Sixth straight National League East Division title for the Braves and 18th in 30 years, 7 more than the second-best Phillies who have been in the East 25 years longer.
They should just rename the Division the Braves Division and give them the title automatically. :D
There was a video released about a month ago (below) showing how he has worked on and improved his swing since arriving at Atlanta, he now has a more powerful swing a more reliable swing against all types of pitching and it's one of the sweetest swings in the game.
That was a great game one, Braves opened up a 7-1 lead thanks to Acuna's Grand Slam and solo homers from Riley and Harris III, but the Dodgers fought back with four homers of their own including two from Betts and some great late inning pitching from the Dodgers ballpen.
Just out of interest...
The Braves have just broken the club record for most home runs in a season… with 30 games to go. Arica hit their 250th in the sixth innings of their 7-3 win over the Rockies.
Next up is a 4 game series with the Dodgers. This is going to massive.
Acuna Jr is just a homer away from creating history. Today he stole his 60th base for the season and also hit his 29th HR. No one has ever gone 30-60 in a season AL/NL history.
Max Fried is back and the best team in the MLB just got a little better. :)
Fried pitched for six innings with 8 strikeouts and gave up only 3 singles, and the Braves beat the Cubs 8-0.
Welcome back Max.
True, but I didn't think they would perform as poorly as the Mets or Nationals. Surely, we aren't that bad.
Anyway, the below article brings up an interesting stat about the triple play.
Braves turn first triple play of '23 -- in a way not seen since 1884!
The Boston Beaneaters have gone...
