FWIW, I don't have any serious issue with using the app, but if we don't pay for journalism, we deserve Daily Mail Australia and news.com.au.

Part of the issue is that the case for a Gabba upgrade was not well-made publicly. I go to the Gabba for the footy and the cricket, and, well, as a spectator, it's fine. The ingress and exit could be easier, and the bus station is a shitfight, but otherwise it's fine. The catering is on par...

If it's not within 10 minutes of a train, IMO they aren't being serious.

The only reason I can think of is that the relevant industrial lots (the ones off Deshon St) are about equidistant to Coorparoo, and more to the point, aren't sat on an easy train line or busway. Then there's the difficulty of mixing trucks and kids.

All I can say is that for the number of times it's described as a crisis, I sure wish it was treated like one. We could force a challenge to the supermarket duopoly, give more power to collective bargaining, or eliminate unpaid overtime... but noooooo. We're happy to describe it as a crisis...

Say what you will, but the man knows how to win elections. Something like 48% of primary votes is ridiculous. Last thing he had to do in that election was say anything that would kick Jono Sri off the front page.

I'll have to keep an eye out, I'm driving past it this afternoon... but I think it's two sets of two. I agree, but I think that they were banking on overcoming local community opposition and in the end they probably would have done so. Broader Brisbane doesn't really care if some Kangaroo Point...

Yeah, that is true - though it is four platforms. That said, trains are the main game - I used to live in Melbourne, and Princes Park was bad enough, let alone Waverley ugh. I guess the other side of it for me is that the Gabba precinct is already built around the Gabba, there's no loss of...

I don't share that view, because I do think that there will be a change of government at the next election (state, that is) and that provides the opportunity for a re-set. No idea what the Gabba area would actually become, as well, if it was bulldozed.

Depends, it's about 1km at the absolute shortest to the train, that's for the most proximate stadium location and not including walking around the stadium. That's ok for able-bodied people, but a bit crap for kids and people who aren't so mobile. Busways are ok, but they're only a cherry on...

Luckily, in the interview in question, he just said it was "very compelling" as a case. He stopped well short of saying he would "push" for it over the Gabba, and stated that he also had concerns over the parkland impact. For what it's worth, I support the Gabba being redevloped - it's better...

Yes it was, but they were adamant that Melbourne was not going to be part of their Comm Games bid. It was only ever going to be a regional thing. This was what drove the cost up (because the infrastructure wasn't there), and honestly, Melbourne has outgrown the Commonwealth Games, as has pretty...

This is how I feel about it too, to be honest. Labor wimped out under NewsCorp opposition to the Gabba plan, the Vic Park stuff is clearly expensive and not great for transport. Liberals are just playing small-target because they know they're in the box seat for the next election.

Worth checking out the ye olde ads for Wobbie's World (the original, real-life theme park that P$$weak World was based on). It's hilarious for how lame it is

I live nearby (out the other side of Toohey Forest), and have to say that QSAC is an incredibly stupid and shortsighted idea for the Olympics.

    AKA's comments

Look, I don't think that there was anything either malicious or racist in it. Calling them a group of monkeys had nothing to do with their skin colour - it was purely Aka's mouth going one (or ten) steps ahead of his brain. Give the bloke a second chance.
