Terrific day of cricket. Really enjoyable to watch, even in the heat.
NZ bowled tremendously well today. Bar the drop, they were committed in the field, I don’t think I saw a midfield all day. And kept to plans they had set, especially to Smith, who on another day might have hit a century. He...
Sorry just came back on- I was on the members area. So northern side, I think? Not in the sun, anyway. I got burnt in the 20 mins Spent lining up.
I think youre right. It should be really pleasant for viewing from about 5 on, especially if the breeze stays. Right now standing in the queue waiting to get in, though.... :S
Just got to the ground. Boy it’s hot. Probably not helped by the walk and they haven’t opened the members section yet.
Should be a fairly decent days play though.Expecting a much more closer contest than the previous tests. Travis Head should get a bat this time around.
Decent enough fightback from Khawaja and Marsh- an innings defeat almost looked likely when SMarsh fell.
Also, I am glad that we didn’t review Khawaja’s lbw just because he was the set batsman. The temptation would have been there, that’s for sure- That review could prove handy today.
Here’s...
Pretty decent day of cricket, all things considered. SA batted better than we did against the reversing ball today, I thought, but it was a great contest all day.
Happy for Mitch Marsh that he seems to be now in a spot to contribute as that 5th bowler. Especially today when you consider how...
Thrilled for Mitch. Has been a terrific innings thus far with hopefully much more to come tomorrow. He's copped a fair bit of criticism in the last few years, so to silence them today was excellent. Part of that I will never understand- the trolling, that is; direct your anger at the selectors...
First session is crucial tomorrow. Given the slowness in the pitch- I thought we kept it pretty tight bar slight lapses in concentration. Cummins wickets were both pearlers and shows why we have persisted for so long with him.
Get through a couple of wickets and we could keep them to 300-320...
I think Ashton agar will be ready to replace Lyon when he retires from test cricket, or 3-5 years.
Developing nicely, but still a few consistent years away yet, but I think he offers a lot with both bat & ball.
True. But only because he was holding back all of our future superstar midfielders all on his own. :p plus, deep deep down, we all want those curls.
Back to the topic though.
I feel sorry for Bailey missing out for Clarke, but in reality, if Clarke isn't fit- he will breakdown again soon...
More likely they want to give him some exposure in the conditions, in a development role. See what he can do on more favourable pitches for spin. He also seems pretty handy with the bat as well in his short 1st class career. I imagine it would get pretty longwinded bowling in the nets for two...
The reason Huss does well with the tail is that he backs them in to face a few balls, and takes the runs that are there. No use hogging the strike and getting out playing a stupid shot because youve got yourself weighed down.
It is interesting to note that the two oldest guys have done the...
Mussey averaging 83.33 in this series. Finally Mussey you're back! :thumbsu:
Good win by the Aussies, makes Friday an interesting match, but, they seem to have their confidence back, so I guess that really has been the major factor this year.
It's not all doom and gloom for Aussie Cricket...
Great 50 Hussey. Good to see you making the runs again! :thumbsu:
edit: Can't wait to actually watch this innings. stupid 1 hour delay into WA. Can't work out the point of it TBH.
Thank goodness for cricinfo!
IMO Marsh & Warner need time. These are guys that are really going to be the future of Aussie One dayers, we can't expect like we have come to expect in the last 10 years for players to come in and suddenly hit centuries off every second innings. Australia, albeit in a very very strong possy...
I don't really know, he isn't featured too much in the news over here, although I would have thought they wouldn't have sent him to South Africa this close to recovering from injury. In my eyes, he is the natural opener, and, with Katich, will mean that there shouldn't be another openers spot...
I say that as an option, to me it is obvious that Jacques will be given the spot once he comes back, so why not experiment with at him at another spot? If it seems stupid, I didn't get much sleep last night! :o
Hi Guys
This is a serious question for mine, and it is surely an option that IMO the selectors are facing, especially as Jaques is really still recovering, I would have thought he should be given as much time to recover as possible. Do they push maybe Michael Hussey to the remaining Opening...
Exactly.
It would be nice to see a few more games come our way though, throughout the summer it barely rains here, it generally stays 30C plus, if only we could get the pitch back to the way it used to be, then the WACA match could become more of a spectacle, as generally bowlers & batters...
The reason for that is is that West Aussies are very laid back in their planning, they generally only book things at the last minute, especially in regards to cricket. Football is different, but it's a different ball game in the eastern states, to actually get in for the big matches you have to...
& Considering the first ball was a wide, he did extremely well.
Reading the article about it, it seems to me he got only just got through it.
1/11 though is phenomenal for a bloke that hasn't bowled for 6 Months..
I had gilly.
I made 1375, lead the league i'm in so i'm happy. This is like the best i have ever been placed in any dream team.
And that's with hussey and ponting making less than 90 points combined.
Wish i had kumble as captain though..
i'll second that..
Missed out on meeting him once when my sister had cancer, he was at the ronald mcdonald house in subi, and i was at the hospital.
They told me he was there, but only after he had left..
Even my sister who hates cricket met him! :o
But they said he was a really down to earth...
