If you feel you need them just wear them? Don't worry about what other people think, if you keep getting sore shins (mine hurt heaps after just minor contact) then grab some shin guards.

Im not a great with nutrition stuff, but what are you eating the night before? Most footballers carb load the day/night before the game, trying eating pasta etc friday night?
