Watching at the ground last week I can say Williams’ manning of Greene in the first half was pretty ridiculous. Peeled off, got sucked into contests letting Greene out the back, generally just left Greene standing out on his own at all times. We just got lucky the ball didn’t get directed his...
Pittonet was absolutely dominating the ruck early so Stanley turned it into a wrestle. Not only did he get away with completely ignoring the actual ball all game, when the umpires eventually decided to put a stop to it they gave the free to Stanley!
We can and did do something about it though - started kicking the majority of our score from centre clearances before teams could flood numbers back. Pittonet was a big part of that.
I think if we don't start scoring from centre clearances teams are just going to do what Freo did and flood our backline, same as in our rough patch last year. Can't rely on Charlie & Harry then, can't find a way to brute force goals through a crowded forward line, can't kick goals from outside...
I see Kemp as somewhat like Docherty when he arrived here - a sound kick but prone to errors because they're not used to the speed of the game. Whereas I see Marchbank's errors as more about poor skill execution
Elijah Hollands / Moir ideally. If we really go down that path then maybe go for Hayward.
1st in the league for tackles inside 50.
8th in the league for tackles inside 50 while only playing half a season last year.
Fogarty is a little one dimensional, but that one thing he brings is pressure and he is elite at it. Would be handy in finals.
Edit - I do agree with the sentiment that he shouldn’t be our best small forward though, and right now I think he is
Exactly this. It's like wanting to turn May into Moore - he wouldn't have the pace to do it as successfully and he's already Steven May so why would you want to change that anyway?
Plus in Weitering's case he's not a complete dickhead so he has that over May too.
Hollands isn't seeing much of the ball but I don't think he's going all that badly. Did a job on Pickett, who kept trying to spark the Tigers but ended up biting off too much and either turning it over or getting done HTB.
Fair enough - I was just basing that off a quote from Andrew Wilkie
"They are advised to lie about a condition while the results of the off-the-book tests are kept secret and are never shared with Sports Integrity Australia or WADA"...
Thought it was interesting that we were beaten around the ball, but were able to open the game up with precise kicking. A real reversal of what I would have considered this teams strengths and weaknesses
