He's playing against good tall defenders most weeks; yes, Weitering is very good, but there's also Darcy Moore, Steven May, Sam Taylor, Harris Andrews, Tom McCartin... At some point, it's not so much an alibi as a pattern.

I think he'd be playing seniors in the 1990s. Think Glenn Kilpatrick type.

Yes, he's uniquely irreplaceable, but that does not justify taking anything other than the most conservative approach possible. If we lose a few H&A games, so be it. We are 7-0. If we go 10 and 5 from here, we guarantee a home QF.

It didn't hurt that I think this was the strongest VFL side we have fielded in years. Rohan, Bews, Conway, Hardie, Knevitt, Humphries, Neale, Mannagh, Clark, Mullin - that's a lot of players with mature bodies who are really just too good for VFL, even if they might not yet bet ready for the...

Oppo Camp Non Geelong football (AFL) discussion 2024, Part I

What a lowlife - Hodgey shouldn't be in need of a dime, and those payday loan companies are absolute vultures.

Also wouldn't it depend on who goes up in those contests? Stanley only played 65%-ish.

2 weeks is pretty normal for concussion.

Who for, though? Potentially Dangerfield I guess, unless there is a 'managed' coming up.

It's also Broadcasting 101. You don't talk up the likely winner; it encourages people to switch over.

He did fairly well on 65% GT against Hawthorn. Brisbane, it was hard to judge his endurance because obviously his direct opponent went off in the 2nd.

What it does mean to me is, one more hamstring and I think he is done.

It's not just the hitouts, it's the around the ground stuff too. Stanley has been killed both below his knees and in contested marking in the last 18 months.

It's one of those things where you now see players, if they think they will get beaten to the ball by a split-second, holding back by a millisecond and nailing the tackle. It does go against previous wisdom, but the worst possible outcome from a 1v1 is the opposition getting out the front of a...

But with our second ruck setup, he's not required to play 85% of the game. Conway for 65% and Blicavs for 35% is, IMO, a better combo than Stanley for 80% and Blicavs for 20% - even though it does eat a bit into our midfield rotations.

It hasn't been working. Players have zoned off him with relative impunity for a while now.

I think that there's a broader issue with Hawkins now being invisible in a hell of a lot of games since the middle of last year. I don't like always going back to statistics to prove a point, but it's a slightly more objective method than "I reckon", and... there are a hell of a lot of games...

We're certainly not forgotten, but the media is cautious. I do get it - there are some games (like this one) where conventional wisdom says we should probably have lost, and yet we've managed a solid-but-not-quite-comfortable win. Pundits don't quite know what to make of us, because we are...

Last week was a bit of an anomaly due to the appalling rain. Most weeks, if we don't get a few goals out of the big boys, we are still in some trouble.

He wasn't superb. He was good, not superb - and against a ruck who he matches up well on (weak in ruck contests, a good endurance machine). The other weeks this year, he has been very ordinary. One good swallow don't make a summer.

Yes, but I still think that he is a better ruckman at the moment than Stanley, even on very limited AFL exposure. Do I think he'd get smacked by Gawn? Yep, they both would. But, like Luke Skywalker going to face Darth Vader even though he knew he wasn't quite ready... ... ladies, please form...
