Are there any of the 1981 line up still on when its focus was on the VFA? Torch McGee possibly. I'm reasonably certain Tony Leonard was there, but he is long gone from the current line up - admittingly most of them were there probably a year or two later
That would be seem to be part of the strategy - steering SEN away from 'boof' type style of a broadcaster like Schwarz. I'd say they want Whateley to be their sporty 'Neil Mitchell', possibly even trying to poach some of his audience. Whether that is a smart move is something only time will tell
While I do admire her, there is one thing that annoys me about her, and that is her penchant for making out a non-story as critical on slow-news days. That's not good journalism, that's just turning a dollar for the boss.
It sort of exists already. The afl app on Samsung smart tv's allows you to watch any match from the past couple of years on your tv. Don't remember how far it goes back, but to make it go back thirty years say is not a technical challenge at all, it is purely a rights and motivation issue
Ta - zero chance of getting a terrestrial digital signal. Have already established they are eligible for VAST, but they are in no hurry to spend the money required for the satellite dish, decoder and installation.
My parents place were just on the edge of receivable transmission. Heavy snow and constant intefrence from Tassie. I was happy if I could make out players and making out the ball has a sign of really good conditions.
This is no longer the case, since they turned off analogue last year they get...
If you think of what media streaming was like 3 years ago, think about how much improvement their will be in the next three years. TV as we know it is on it's way out and being replaced by watch on demand. Sport is the only thing keeping live TV going, but it wont last. Digital downloads is the...
Any call needs three types of people.
The game caller - The guy (or girl) who provides the framework for the mind's eye to paint the picture. They provide the emotion and take you through the ebb and flow of the game. They weren't born to be footballers, they were born to be word-smiths. IMO...
You'd watch the game on the Saturday and then get home to watch the winners and if you were very lucky (or a collingwood supporter) some replay of the match on channel 7 replay. No Internet, no foxtel, no wall to wall coverage.
WOS was one of the very few opportunities to get any analysis...
Love it how the media make certain players 'stars', despite having done nothing. So thought I would start up a thread highlighting these stars.
First entry into the stellar gallery is the following from today's Age:
The above quoted from the front page. Who could it be? Bartel? SJ? or...
I think he wants it to be the 'Four Corners' or 'Sunday' of the footy media world, and it would be great if it could be, however Eddie's presidency can only compromise that lofty ambition. He was attcked quite viciously this morning on SEN about the Liam Jurrah story, despite his piece not...
One thing I'd like to see is a 'virtual league'.
Random matches from the the home and away matches of the 70's and 80's that most people have forgotten the result of. Create a season with it's own ladder.
Not a bad effort at all - although they would do well to invest in a camera stand - copy of http://www.legofussball.eu/ which was featured in the guardian
Disagree on two counts. Firstly the Dribbler is a nothing comment and nobody would have said anything if it were anyone else other than Aka. Secondly, he hasn't got much left to offer as a footballer - he is a spent force and should have retired last year while, as Mick Malthouse said, he still...
One of the great joys of Grand Final day is to see how crass and bad the AFL can make the pre-game/half-time entertainment. It wouldn't be footy if they did it any other way. Anyway, will be at the bar at those times.
Some database admin should be getting their arse kicked. One day's worth of data in the off-season is almost acceptable, but a month's worth is just plain amateur
I was prepared to give it a go - the old site was rather heavy which annoyed me.
However I am getting rather peeved with it now.
Three main complaints:
* The main page does not get updated very often - you'll often see stories on the main 'theage.com.au' site, but there is no mention of it on...
Re: The draft televised in reverse (top 10)
Imagine it next year when GC has the first dozen or so picks. WTF does it matter what order are they in?
Also prople are concerned mostly with their own club, not with who went number 1 -does anyone really care which of Trengove or Scully is...
Not sure what his role will be - never heard him commentate. What he does tend to to speciliase in is the broader issues of footy, rather than the minutae required for a match broadcast.
It was unprofessional by RC and The Age. The piece was more subjective than objective and can't really be seen as an independent cold analysis due to RC's support of the bombers - at the very least he should have declared his support of the bombers in the article.
The Age have plenty of other...
She supports Adelaide as it so happens. However every match she has commentated on has involved Geelong winning, so hence the ignorant comment.
Having heard her for the last three weeks, she aint so bad for commentator who has commentated for only three matches.
More interesting are the...
