As far as historic rules go and current interpretations, this one is up there for leader of the dogs breakfast.
The interpretation is seeming far to arbitrary, including within certain periods of any game.
Has the rule become too complex, are the umpires too shy in their judgement.
The Standard of umpiring for the nations biggest competition is absolutely disgusting.
Would've accepted this in the 90's, even early 00's, but the game is now a fully fledged billion dollar business. I know every sport has its contentious issues, but its the sheer number of bad/ inconsistent...
Sick of this mentality its not who throws the first but the last punch (in this case a knee to the head). Im not condoning what Sicily did, its not a good look and unprofessional but it was instigated and propelled by Selwoods actions and he gets off with nothing. Punish Selwood and other...
Bit of a pet peeve of mine and have seen Townsend already try do it twice. Umpire will blow the whistle and get them on their angle but IMO the umpire should just should play on. Around the ground its play on once the player leaves his line, why isn't it the same when taking a set shot?
You have to reward intent, but I'm the same on this issue its absurd in that situation
Pretty clear for me
Player attacks ball- has opportunity to dispose and doesnt - HTB
Player attacks ball and has absolutely no prior - Quick ball up
I think one common theme that comes up to is the umpires loving the 'theatre' of the game. FFS youre there to officiate a game not be an active participant. FWIW i think you could apply this thread to many of the rules currently, i honestly wouldnt be opposed to stripping it all back and getting...
The second one is particular peeve of mine, if the player hasn't had a genuine attempt to get it out and the ball isn't out. Ball it up straight away, dont build suspense. Too many umpires love the theatre of the game more than their job.
Im genuinely at a loss to what this rule is and have been now for the past 2-3 seasons. Is rarely paid when its needed to be and teams seemingly cop ludicrous ones on others.
Dont see the issue here, good record. Meant to hit him just not in the head and was being held on to.Yes he knocked a bloke out but it was accidental and not intentional.
Ridiculous outcome. Not only will this lead to more boring press conferences that have the cliche of 'just playing it week to week, play for the team' but more importantly is not allowing any debate on the worst season of umpiring in many years. Doesn't help when you have grubs like Barret...
In Racing their are protests
In tennis you can challenge via hawk eye
I am not saying the umpires were entirely biased tonight, there is a possibility that some decisions were made in hawthorns favour
But when will these guys become accountable. IMO the decisions cost us a spot in the GF and...
