Overnight, it occurred to me that this is basically equivalent to the AFL men's side losing Cripps and Walsh over summer - our best inside and outside mids, McKay, Williams and Docherty the year before - our star full forward and a pair of high quality...
Can't fault the effort, but they lacked composure. So many times they gave it back to Melbourne with blind kicks forward.
Could be inexperience I suppose, and the lack of big forwards to be an outlet.
I only watched the last quarter and a bit. Carlton's hard tackling and defensive desperation made the game a great spectacle for me.
