Do we need another AFL Club or are there too many as it is?

The problem with the AFL is not talent dilution, its over-capitalisation.

The big 4 clubs and the AFL's future

Yes to Tasmania and fix up the academies. The fact that the big four are s**t is their fault alone. Just like I don't want my membership money given to North Melbourne, I don't want the AFL to discriminate and give my club a leg up.

AFL allocates Zones to Victorian Teams

Sometimes that's exactly what they are.

AFL allocates Zones to Victorian Teams

Shouldn't be, if you are born in Australia, you are indigenous to Australia. There is no "profiling" unless you start making a point that you are different.

AFL blocking A-League GF at MCG/Etihad

Big bash is on free to air. . A league has one game on fta a week. Comparing the tv ratings when a league receives substantially reduced exposure is ludicrous. If big bash does go full summer its average crowds will reduce because it will be less "unique". Cricket will never be the great...

Show me. Does that include the World Cup?

AFL blocking A-League GF at MCG/Etihad

I pick cricket. Cricket is not more popular than Soccer. Cricket is dying the slow death worldwide. Australia is not immune.

AFL blocking A-League GF at MCG/Etihad

Which sport is second most popular in NSW and QLD? If your answer is AFL then you would be wrong. It is not a minnow game, it gets more supporters to games than some NRL and AFL games.

    states and territories :)

AFL blocking A-League GF at MCG/Etihad

Ignorant comment. Football is not the most popular sport in each state but it is probably the second most popular sport in every state. AFL is the most popular sport in 4 or 5 states but 3rd most popular in NSW and QLD.

Mega Thread The "Will GWS make it" megathread (NO similar threads will be allowed)

Environment is important. Richmond have not had as many very high draft picks as Carlton and Melbourne. In fact they are often criticised for finishing 9th which backs this up. In any event, by referencing teams that have had high draft picks but that have not succeeded you back up my...

I think they will struggle. High draft picks do not guarantee success. Look at Carlton.

Mick Malthouse demands Sydney help end now

I understand all that but the point is about making it a fair competition. It is not fair and that is what rubs people the wrong way. Consider NRL or Ligue 1 soccer. There are no leg ups to Melbourne Storm or Bastia. Nor should there be. If there is to be a leg up it should be to establish...

Mick Malthouse demands Sydney help end now

I'm not sure why you are chasing the Sydney rainbow. I find it ironic that Adelaide could not fit Tippett's wages (For argument's sake lets say $800,000) into it's salary cap and cheated to fit it it. The AFL investigate this behaviour and penalise Adelaide as the AFL deems it unfair on the...

AFL want to TAX footy fans

I tried to reason with you but it's clear you have NFI. Equally sharing revenue is fair if all facets of the league are fair eg fixturing, tickets for all games are equal price regardless of the stadium, no. of interstate games, no. of friday night games etc. If those things are not equal...

AFL want to TAX footy fans

Because you said that everything would be equal so there would be no clubs given commercial advantages. If every facet of the league was equal from 1 January 2014 could you still complain?
  20. Collingwoodity

AFL want to TAX footy fans

That is the definition of fair. But it is not fair if the money is not sourced from the 18 clubs equally.
  21. Collingwoodity

Why is the AFL never going to be truly equal?

The fixture and salary cap advantages/allowances is by definition not fair. Everything else should be just like the real world, the strong survive the weak die.

I thought the AFL was aiming for equalisation?

    Of Course.

I thought the AFL was aiming for equalisation?

This is so dumb. Dayne Beams? The rest is as well.
  26. Collingwoodity

I thought the AFL was aiming for equalisation?

No. The AFL was weak and shortsighted when introducing (and maintaining) COLA and Retention allowances by giving leg-ups to poorly-run/supported clubs.

Andrew Demetriou ...... Your Time Is Up !!

Andrew Demetriou ...... Your Time Is Up !!

Has been an abomination from the get-go imo. And before people say things about profit and money he has brought in, a mediocre savvy businessman could have "grown" AFL the way it has. population + money from credit loans = spending. 1 dollar when wayne jackson started is worth 5 dollars...
