I like this plan more than Eddies, anything that puts the Australian Open at risk can't be contemplated and losing Hisense would do just that. Even if it's rebuilt can't see how it would fit into the precinct, just not viable IMO.
Lets say Etihad is worth 1.3 billion (hypothetically), I...
I'd love each club to still have their own grounds up and running. Even if they only hold 20,000. Could hold 2-3 'spiritual' home games a year there which would be fantastic for the clubs supporters.
Just need a billionaire to come in and be willing to fund it for all clubs
Not exactly a solution, but bring in State of Origin with the home state hosting the grand final. If we can get it up and running with a good following would give other states a taste of a 'grand final' event.
Or get the nab cup actually interesting
Got to keep the riff raff out!
I just think all 1st to 5th year members should be limited to say 0-2 guest passes per event, then just increase the % of those members.
I'd get the feeling its a funding grab
And in regards to the dimensions in the past for one dayers/t20s they run the pitch from goal to goal, rather than from wing to wing.
There are first class nets there next to the Geelong Cricket Ground behind the Ablett Tce, not sure on dimensions but there was an article about potential matches there during the WC and that wasn't brought up.
Simonds Stadium is first class standard, I think they'll probably play those matches during the WC there (it should be being utilized during the WC anyway).
You'd have to be pinching those sold games from TIO, Alice Springs, maybe 1/2 of North's hobart games etc. That gives you 4, could taking about 3 from the MCG and 6 from Etihad justify it? 13 games would have to be close but I can't see the AFL taking many more games from the G/Etihad than that
Can remember Geelong v North early last year, level 3 was near full but level 1 wouldn't have been anymore than 50%. Looks bad for the AFL on TV and a pain for spectators
Yep that was my understanding of the problem with it, but surely even an ordinary rectangular stadium would be better than it just going to waste? Not being from South Australia I wouldn't know, but it seems like just playing SANFL games there is a bit of a waste
Couldn't agree more with the posts above, the way they've kept the old charm but made it a truly elite stadium is sensational. Only issue I'd have is the capacity is arguably a little bit small when the grounds finished, ideally in the long term Adelaide probably would like/need around a 65,000...
Was going to post Colac Reserve. Just underdone a major redevelopment with the turf being completely replaced to the same standard as MCG, with the ground now having the same dimensions. Premier ground in the GFL, and host CDFL finals as previously mentioned.

If you can be bothered to drive an hour down the highway Simonds Stadium has Geelongs premiership cups on full public display, along with stadium tours. While you're in Geelong there is also a plaque on the former sight of Corio Oval.
Whitten oval would be worth a peak also, real throwback to...
The two new stands are pretty distinguishable, with the other recent one on the far wing from the broadcast side. I've sat in all three of these stands throughout the year and found them to be at least as good as Etihad's facilities, but not as good as the MCG's. Can't say I've had the pleasure...
Excluding part time AFL grounds, worst I've been to Etihad. Place has no atmosphere, not sure what you call them but the walkways around the ground on all three levels surrounding the ground with food/beverage outlets are way to cramped (even during relatively small prices) and the price of...
What a rookie mistake by me :D cheers for picking up the slack!
To the top is St.Marys Oval, used by St.Marys football club in the GFL. To the right is Geelong Cricket Ground, used by Geelong Cricket Club in the Victorian Premier League. Also occasionally hosts state women's cricket.
If your going to Simonds Stadium you've got many options. Apologies for photo quality
1. Lord of the Isles, across the road on corner of West Fyans St and La Trobe Tce. Fairly sophisticated bistro while the bar is still a classic, great pub. Its where Geelong hold there famous mad monday's ever...
