    AFLW Offseason List Changes

The Brisbane Lions AFLW side will be bolstered by the leadership and experience of Carlton’s inaugural captain Lauren Arnell, after the midfielder signed with the Club for the 2019 season today. Arnell comes to the Club after the Lions traded Nicole Hildebrand to Collingwood for pick 40 at the...

    AFLW Draft and Compensation

I am fine with the compensation because draft picks are useless to us. What else could we have got as compensation? Perhaps we could’ve had a smaller limit on players we were allowed to lose as well as the other interstate teams. These early years won’t count for much anyway. There’s not a...

    AFLW Draft and Compensation

Actually it is. Your rant about your club being penalised and AFL making up rules on the fly clearly showed that you’re bitter about it.

    AFLW Draft and Compensation

You say terms like pushed down, punished, penalised and shunted down but we’re North ever allocated higher picks then the ones they received? It was always going to be on the fly and inadequate because the draft doesn’t work and there were inadequate means to compensate the interestate teams...

    AFLW Draft and Compensation

The real competition hasn’t even started yet. 8 weeks in summer? Very few play full time? New teams being added? Some teams don’t have proper home grounds? It’s a joke at the moment. The AFL have a long term view. The first 10 or so years will be forgotten about.

But in the end if a player wants to move then they'll probably move. Trades are tough for non-vic teams because draft order is pointless for them.

    AFLW Offseason List Changes

All teams will probably lose players. The standard of every team is likely to go backwards not just ours. It's interesting that the other non-Vic teams haven't lost any yet but the melbourne uni and tasmanian connection wasn't going to help the Lions.

    AFLW Offseason List Changes

Don't you see an issue between the two bolded parts? There was a novelty factor behind the success of the first season. It was great seeing footy in February but we're seeing the awful standard of footy taking its toll on attendance. The AFL can't wait that long for it to be turned around...

    AFLW Offseason List Changes

It's not always going to be a 14 week competition. The goal would be to have a full length competition and for it to be a full time job for those involved. The AFL isn't pumping all this money into it for it to be a 3 month warmup for the AFL season and they can't sit back and wait as other...

    AFLW Offseason List Changes

It's hard to be a full time athlete without full time wages. The competition was 8 weeks long this year. It'll be longer next year and even longer in 2020. There's also preseason. AFL footballers don't work only 6 months a year. In order to lift the standard from 'suburban footballers' they...

    AFLW Offseason List Changes

But if you're using it as a bargaining tactic like Carlton and Collingwood with Davey then there's an issue as other clubs may not have a hundred grand to pay these players. Would Collingwood still offer this position to Davey if she was to stay at Carlton?

    AFLW Offseason List Changes

No did I say it was dictating the league? It's all well and good to have no salary cap in its infancy but for this league to be taken seriously it has to be run seriously. I also think they should all get full time wages under a salary cap.

You don’t see how it reduces the credibility of the competition to allow teams to pay players outside the salary cap?

AFL Women's Grand Final should be held in the top teams State and not as an AFL mens opener.

It's not. It finishes 4 hours before the mens game.

AFL Women's Grand Final should be held in the top teams State and not as an AFL mens opener.

Maybe they didn't want it any earlier in the year to avoid the heat. It does have it's own timeslot so it doesn't clash with the AFL games this weekend.
