The biggest problem with restraining orders is they are rarely policed. Also, can increase any anger in a big way.
Without enforcement they are a useless double edged sword.
Wonder if the accused went back and forth to this location
Agree, innocent til proven guilty is a backbone of our legal system and must always be. People need to be careful what they wish for. Don't want a Russian system for example.
Thing is, being remanded for so long would surely bring out...
Also, with regional towns kids often come into school from outer areas further away by bus. Very different from your typical big city schools where most are in the local area.
Yeah, the lack of initial evidence certainly points to no accident. Someone in a panic would surely have left evidence on the day, though he would know the area very well.
You would think if it was a genuine accident his legal team would have advised him to cooperate from the get go IMO
Like when Herman Rockefeller was missing and the police found his car near Ballan somwhere and the news interviewed a person from the Gordon store (I live in Gordon btw) and they said they saw him come into the shop and buy milk & a pie or something like that. It was later found he was already...
I think it is natural for people to look for something "evil" or "disturbing" in his persona so they can justify in their own mind how this is possible. We all wanted the accused to be a weird scary middle to old age loner.
What people fear the most is if the accused has a clean slate...
Yeah, if he disposed of the body down a mineshaft (could possibly know of them, growing up in the area) they may never find the body so 1 and 3 could play out.
With no body, they could still mount a strong case if there is enough evidence, esp DNA in his car.
Much to play out.
Yeah lack of body & no witnesses and weapon atm but for all we know police may have DNA (ute), motive could be established in time, someone may have dobbed him in, even his girlfriend. They already have him placed at the last known location at the time she disappeared. If there are no other...
Will be very interesting to see what is presented on the 15th. Yeah we are all guessing but police were fairly specific from the murder charge pov in that it was a deliberate attack.
Finding the body is key but they must have some strong intel to lay the charge. Police had him in their sights...
TBH, I would be staggered if it was not sexual assault/rape then murder.
If it was one of the hit run scenarios his legal team would be looking to lessen the charge and part of that would be cooperating with police IMO. Plus the charge would be somewhat different too. Just makes no sense to me.
The police clearly had the phone data for weeks and had been watching him until arrest. Maybe he slipped up?
Reading between the lines of the presser there was an emphasis on information from the public. Will be interesting to see if anyone reported any suspicious behaviour, even from the...
^^In spades.
Key to the case now will be firstly finding the body. If no body found they will rely on forensic evidence possibly linked to the car. Detectives will be probably putting the girlfriend through the ringer too.
Can we all agree that hit and run is not deliberate murder?
Police not angling that way from what I have heard.
For all we know a damaged car might be blood on the seats.
Having served on a couple of Juries I am convinced the legal profession is living in the 1900s. They even dress up like they are from that era.
It is out there already, horse bolted. Have you heard about this internet thing?
And the fact he looks to have covered his tracks, hid the body etc, points to the fact he knew exactly what he was doing. Pretty hard to claim mental illness IMO.
If local, would have known the area, might have even planned disposal in a mine shaft or would have known where they were.
