The assistance package was used to trade for two fringe players, hardly premiership certainties
God I wish we were half as good as opposition teams think we are
The AFL love screwing the draft order so sons can get to their daddy's clubs or some NSW/QLD academy kid can stay home. Where was this concern about draft order integrity when Carlton, Collingwood, Hawthorn were raping them for priority picks? But yes, North getting help when we have won 9 games...
If it's solely to develop talent in NSW for the good of the code and the entire competition, why do 2 clubs have exclusive access (no other clubs can match bids) to the best talents in an entire state?
Yes before the academies not one player was drafted from NSW...except for duds like....James Hird.....Jarrad McVeigh.....Shane Crawford...Lenny Hayes...
Definitely need an academy lol
So then what exactly is your reason for the academies existing at all?
What exactly is the benefit to the rest of the competition if Sydney get the best players from the academy every year?
No other player (except for a small amount of players who go F/S) have the choice to stay home. Is that better? Geez
The thread is about academies- I didn't mention F/S because I didn't want to distract from the main point.
Why is it so important that NSW/QLD kids have an academy so they can...
Well the AFL need to revisit it. It's the only fair way to do it.
So why does an academy player get the choice to stay home when no other player does? If they want to do that, let them play NRL. Who cares
So if the academies are so necessary to generate the homegrown talent, why don't we let the AFL run it and then players can get drafted anywhere?
Or are the Northern teams not confident they could lure these players home from Vic/SA/WA?
Glad someone brought this up
It's a huge advantage to have your home ground the MCG where all the finals are played. All other teams (maybe bar Geelong) get finals at their home ground- yet North, Essendon, St.Kilda, Bulldogs don't. It's massively unfair.
If you're going to have all Vic finals...
St Kilda are where North was a few years ago under Brad Scott. Mid table finishes, miss out on elite talent, no stars.
We should have done a rebuild in 2016 but instead we topped up with spuds like Polec. Don't make the same mistakes.
It's because most people - rightly or wrongly - consider the Lions history as an extension of the Bears history, rather than an extension of Fitzroy's history. To a lot of Fitzroy supporters, their club ceased to exist (in the national comp) in 1996.
