Geelong are not the seventh best team in the competition. That much is clear after their swashbuckling past four weeks have shot them back up into the top eight on the AFL ladder - but still well short of where they really sit.

That’s why we have the power rankings.

Welcome back to 7NEWS.com.au’s AFL power rankings. Here’s where we think the 18 clubs really sit after seven weeks of evidence. Scroll down to see the full list.

6. Port Adelaide

Last week’s ranking: 8

Seven weeks of evidence may not be enough for Ken Hinkley to earn a contract extension at Port Adelaide, but it is enough to have some level of certainty that the Power are putting their hat in the ring this year. Gutsy win on the road against the No.1 defensive team in the competition. It’s a non-debate right now, but when the dust settles on the careers of Jason Horne-Francis and Nick Daicos, they will be an interesting comparison. Horne-Francis has given Daicos a massive head start, but the former has now entered the race.

7. Adelaide

Last week’s ranking: 7

They’re not the first and will not be the last to fall victim to a Collingwood thriller. That last two minutes might keep [PLAYERCARD]Matthew Nicks[/PLAYERCARD] up at night, but that might just be a good thing long-term. Having 23 scoring shots to 19 suggests they should have won but, in [PLAYERCARD]Craig McRae[/PLAYERCARD]’s words, the Crows didn’t “play the minutes”. You have to play the full 120 minutes to beat the Pies. Still right in the mix for a spot in the bottom half of the top eight.
