The lowest age group should be 9-a-side, but that point just highlights another fundamental issue with the way the female version of the game is being administered at all levels.  We need to get away from the idea that every club is capable of fielding female sides, there are just not enough players to go around.  It is more important for fewer clubs to be set-up with a proper structure and pathway (including reserves at the senior level), than every club tacking on a team just to tick a box.
