It's sorted yes, prices are back to around 2 euros a litre. To charge an EV will cost about the same as buying fuel so there's no real incentive for that.

Where is the tax coming from to replace excise on fuel here in Australia ? Governments arent good at reducing expenditure.

WHAT IS FUEL EXCISE?

Fuel excise is a flat sales tax levied by the Australian Government on petrol and diesel bought at the bowser. The current rate is 46 cents in excise for every litre of fuel purchased.
The rate of fuel excise is adjusted in February and August each year in line with inflation and is in addition to the GST.
Over the past decade (up until 2020-21), only 53% of fuel excise has been re-invested in land transport projects. The AAA would like to see every cent of fuel excise re-invested in to land transport projects.

WHO PAYS?

All Australian motorists who purchase petrol and diesel at the bowser pay 46 cents a litre in fuel excise. Separately, a Road User Charge is paid for each litre of diesel by the owners of heavy vehicles such as buses, coaches and trucks on public roads.
This means that if you are driving a petrol or diesel vehicle on a public road – you pay fuel excise.
