Firstly, we don't pay players to play for other clubs like Collingwood have been doing with Treloar and Grundy.

This goes a long way when it comes to banking cap space so we can pay players to play for us.

We hold players to their contract (eg Tim Kelly, Esava Ratugolea) so we don't have to pay them to play for the opposition.

Secondly, we don't throw ridiculous amounts of money at free agents like Richmond did with Lynch and Sydney did with Franklin.

Remember when Dangerfield came to us on $800k a year? Crows were offering him a contract worth $1m per year hence why we facilitated a trade for him, even though he was a free agent.

Thirdly, we don't chase contracted players.

We wait for players to come out of contract because it costs more to trade for contracted players than uncontracted players.

Deledio, Watts, Stringer, Oliver are a few recent examples of contracted players wanting to come to us, we had to say no because they would have cost us too much and unbalanced our salary cap.

Bowes is the exception to this because we restructured his contract, so it wouldn't unbalance our salary cap.
