Now you must do the same procedure to the back of the guernsey. Follow the steps above. Make sure when you resize and paster the hoops on to the back of the guernsey they line up with the front hoops.

Now onto the socks. The sock are often the hardest part of this process. Firstly, change the bucket fill threshold to 70.0 and change the primary colour to the same blue as the rest of the guernsey.

Click anywhere on the socks ONCE. If there remains any colours other than blue, use the pencil tool to colour it to blue.

We have now finished the design of the guernsey. We will now move on to the next step which involves cleaning the design up and adding sponsor logos and numbers.

Find a good quality AFL logo and paste it onto the guernsey. Make the background transparent (just like earlier) by using the Colour Erase mode on bucket fill tool.

Now resize the AFL logo (like when we resized the hoops) and place it over the messy original. Anchor the layer by clicking outside the active box once again.

Now, using the same logo, paste a new one onto the guernsey and resize it to the size of the old logo on the shorts (slightly smaller than the one on the jumper). Before you anchor the logo over the top of the old one, use the rotate tool to rotate it slightly like the original one was. The rotate tool is found on the toolbox and is used by clicking and dragging in a circular motion depending on how much you want to rotate it.

Now add sponsor logos using the same technique.

Remember:

Paste picture onto guernsey

Remove background (if necessary)

Resize and move (and rotate if required) to desired position

Anchor layer by clicking outside the active box

You can also add number by using the same technique.

Finally, we can add on the stitching and manufacturers label.

Open up the original template again. Using the crop tool, select the area, on both sides of the guernsey and shorts, from just above the manufacturers label to the bottom of the shorts.

Copy that cropped selection, and paste it onto the other guernsey.Using colour erase, remove the white from the guernsey and shorts. If the threshold is still 70.0, all that remains should be the stitching and label.

Move the layer to where it sits on the guernsey.

The AFL shorts logo will be there, so before you anchor it, remove it by rubbing it out with the eraser. Once you can see through to the new AFL logo you put on before, anchor the layer.

Now go back to the original template where we got the stitching from, and press undo to undo the crop and bring back the full image. Crop the socks, copy them, then paste them onto the design.

Once again, remove the white from the sock using Colour Erase. You can also remove the little grey bit just beneath the top fold of the socks by clicking on it after you have removed the white.

Anchor the layer, and your done:

Note: If you want to now add in manufacturer logos to the design you can do that using the same technique used for adding sponsor logos

Please post your finished products :)

I hope this tutorial gave you a basic understanding of Gimp, but the more you practice using it, the more you will be able to with your designs. This is a very basic design but a bit of experimenting should help you further increase your ability. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it is definitely worth the effort. If you need anything else, or there is something wrong/hard to understand with the tutorial let me know and I'll jump on it.

Thanks guys :thumbsu:
