Club name changes:

  • Narrm = Melbourne
    Narrm (pronounced na-arm) is the Aboriginal name for Melbourne which comes from the Woi Wurrung language, spoken by the traditional owners of the city and its surrounds.
  • Walyalup = Fremantle
    Walyalup (pronounced wul-yul-up) is the Noongar name for the Fremantle region. Click here to hear the pronunciation
  • Yartapuulti = Port Adelaide
    'Ngadlu Yartapuulti' translates to 'We are Port Adelaide' in the Kaurna language. Yartapuulti is pronounced Yarta–pole-tee.
Former two-time Grand Final umpire Glenn James OAM was announced as this year’s honouree for Sir Doug Nicholls Round. James umpired 166 games, including the 1982 and 1984 Grand Finals, while working across his lifetime within education and using his position within his communities as an advocate for social justice.
