IMO we won’t win a flag until we can fix recruitment, development and coaching.

All 3 areas have issues and don’t combine to work together as one.

Recruiting

Both Carroll (delisted) White (overlooked originally) have been shining lights this year and are only on the list for sheer dumb luck for Austin and Co.

Our strategy of loading up, on as many off-cast small forwards and hope one lands isn’t good enough. Neither is our overlooking glaring kicking deficiencies of recruits.

Development

This is a major issue, that flys under the radar and gets overlooked here too much. What are Power and Co doing? Players are regressing from this time last year.

While O.Hollands, 2x Camporeale, Binns, Monahan, Duffy and White, are young and easier to adapt. WTF aren’t our development coaches teaching them correct kicking techniques and drilling it into them. Acres and Docherty should be in this group also.

Coaching

Bombing it out of defence and hoping McKay, Curnow or TDK mark it and bombing it into our forward line hoping McKay, Curnow or TDK mark it. Is how the game was played in the 90s. It’s time to get up to speed of the modern game.

IMO our 3 areas.. backs, mids, forwards don’t consistently work as a coherent team. It looks like when the ball is in any third, it’s just their responsibility.

Mids don’t constantly help enough in defence and forwards set up poorly for the option coming out of defence.

Mids and defenders don’t consistently fill the outlets and squeeze the opposition to lock the ball in our front half.

Until we can get recruiting, development and caching all running together, we won’t break this 30 year drought…
