Plenty of big soccer clubs do this with their talent academies, however the global nature of FIFA affiliated leagues and lack of a draft means this sort of investment pays off because said massive clubs can horde all the goodies like dragons and basically use their wealth to maintain the quality of young players entering their list.


This would work well for our club wherein we're rich enough to steal a 12 year old Wardlaw and setup him up at Aquinas, but the AFL's rules gives us no claim on the player when they are of eligible age. The go to the draft and your norfs can just take them. The only way this works out is development of father-son prospects, but the talent identification there is just checking up on your old boys to see if they've had a kid.
