The key is getting the AFL and their major sponsor Virgin involved so we can get special priced tickets. Otherwise I can see the airlines getting ahold of this and charging $600 one way
Surely also it has a lot to do with seating allocations at the stadiums too. Would be no point having 20k supporters at an MCG game if they weren't all in the one section

Totally agree. Virgin are a Premium partner of WC (sitting below only SGIO & Bankwest)
Virgin and Accor hotels are both Official AFL partners.

Theres enough functions, Grand final packages and offers of corporate boxes etc to cater for people with some coin. The AFL is always banging on about making the footy affordable, giving back to the people, supporting grassroots yadda yadda yadda. Here would be an opportunity for them to help WA supporters with the tyranny of travel expenses and expose more people to the footy. This would have to be sold to Virgin/ Accor as a profit from volume thing not just a chance to price gouge. No one flys or stays in more hotels than WC so you`d hope we had some clout?
The `home` club and the AFL would be happy with a bigger attendance at a low drawing game so if it works, I see it being a Win Win Win scenario.

Not going to ever get 20k - airlines struggle to move that many people for the Grand Final.
Call me pessimistic but I don't see any companies or clubs getting on board. Not yet at least. Something like this would need to grow first before they took notice. You simply just won't get the numbers in the first few years.

So start on these boards / facebook / twitter. Get 100 or so people to come over first year. Get a bay in general admission area and go nuts. Morph suits / tour t-shirts to get noticed. Word will spread, and get bigger the next year and so on. That's why I think pick a game that eagles fans normally go over for in the first place.

You rate Collingwood....?

You rate us?

You mean the only games we can win? Yeah

That is correct

You could view it that way. Or you could take the other view that who really wants to pay $500+ for a weekend away to watch us play some crappy side.

That's pretty fair. I watched us play hawks in 2013 at etihad when we lost, and it was much more entertaining then when i watched us pants melbourne at the MCG this year.

- At destination, having support from other sponsors- Puma store sales, CUB, Coke, West Cape Howe wines @ Crown Casino/ pub function (free beer?!) etc.

I'll be there.

Although a few of the best games I've seen since moving to Melbourne have ended in a loss (Collingwood semi-final), the atmosphere when we were up and about in the first quarter was electric!
A heap of Eagle supporters were in specific sections and the noise was simply deafening when we scored a goal.

While I'm not expecting that type of passion or crowd given it was a final against the pies, the point is we have the supporters who can make the noise and will flock across in numbers to support their team.

The best way to entice people is to have the club put on a gig after match with players/coaches etc. making an appearance, I know they often fly out on the night, but hopefully this could be done during the bye rounds and they can hang around (I'd love a cheeky pint with Waters).

With reasonable flight prices and accom I think it could really get some legs (or wings).

If this is going to be in Melbourne then I think the only option is round 8 vs Saints.

Opening round vs Bulldogs would be a bit tough to get organised. Collingwood at Etihad will be packed full of Pies ferals. Richmond at the G would be fantastic except it's a Friday night and people might struggle to get over for the game.

Virgin usually has a happy hour sale on Thursday afternoon, I'll have a look and see if they have any cheap flights for around then.
